Senators Hear Taylor WASHINGTON UPI — Gen. Maxwell D. Taylor told senators yesterday that the Joint Chiefs of Staff have determined that the nuclear test ban treaty is “compatible with the security interests of the United States.” The testimony of Taylor, chairman of the joint chiefs was given to one committee as Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Glenn T. Seaborg was telling three others that the treaty would permit U.S. anti-missile weapons development and should improve rather than jeopardize U.S. security. Firemen had to break through the walls of the burning classroom to control the blaze. Damage was estimated at $300 by police. The unit was one of 10 stored on the college campus to be allocated as directed by the Board of Education. Vandals tried to burn down another mobile unit only a block from the scene of demonstrations Tuesday but the fire burned itself out quickly and caused little damage.

Cataract Lake News Following a two inch rain at the beginning of last week, the lake was l 1 ^ ft. above pool level. The water is warm now—ideal for swimming and skiing. Lieber Park is fast becoming a favorite spot for vacationing campers. And Hulman Beach a most popular spot for bathers. During the past week 590 tents and 339 trailers were on the ground, beside 351 group campers who came for a week-end “overnight” such as Scout groups, FFA—a boys group, etc. On Sunday, the Indiana Electric Service Assn, came to the park for a picnic with 100 families attending. Fishing has been very good the past week. Recently the Kermit Grotto Drum Corps of Terre Haute,—18 families—came to Houk’s Cataract Village. They put their boats in at the Cunot docks and came across to tie up at Houk’s docks. An interesting project is going on at the lake. A couple of men who are experienced with heavy

In front is a crane on which are suspended three large electrodes. The electric current is just enough to stun the fish and bring them to the surface. It does not “knock them out" and leave them floating on the surface. The “effect” is very brief. It catches very few game fish. At the first “tingle” a game fish will swim away but the rough fish are languid—slow swimmers. It does bring up the carp, shad and buffalo that the men want to catch. These fish are dipped up with nets and put into the ••pens.’ , They are then taken away in hugh tank trucks filled with water. There has been some controversy as the whether a buffalo fish will eat fish eggs, or whether he simply uproots the spawning grounds and destroys the

eggs. In 1906, at Lake Maxirktickee, a physical and biological survey was made: “A 75 lb. buf-falo-fish was taken to the laboratory and skinned. The fish was quite fat; it had immense scales —some of them larger than a. silver dollar. The stomach was full of larvae and contained more than a bucket full of roe. The buffalo fish generally stays near the bottom and never takes a hook. The fl e s h is inferior but nutritious.” Mr. Reeker says this new device and its work is most interesting to spectators and he doesn’t blame them. But if you come too near to their working boat you are in danger and force him to cut off the power and halt his operations.
