Opponent's Signal May Be Deceptive By Alfred Sheimvold The trouble with opponents is that they’re looking out for themselves. There is wickedness in their hearts, and the truth is not in them. These are the facts of life, and you mustn't cry if an opponent deceives you with his defensive signals. Smith saw that it might be troublesome to get out of dummy, but decided to cross that bridge when he came to it. He led another trump, and West took the ace. West put dummy in with a spade, and now South had come to his bridge. How was he to get to his hand to draw West’s last trump? CHOICE OF ENTRIES South could try to get to his hand with the ace of diamonds, but there was the danger that 1 West had led a singleton to begin with. The alternative was to cash! two high clubs and ruff the third club. Declarer thought he might try a high club or two just to see what fell, but West dropped the eight of clubs on the ace and the deuce of clubs next. This looked like a doubleton. so South trustingly led a diamond from dummy rather than risk an over-ruff on a third round of clubs. West ruffed the ace of diamonds, defeating the contract. Nobody snickered, but the silence

CATARACT LAKES NEWS By Helen M. Schulz The sunny skies and soaring daytime temperatures accelerated the recreational activities in the lake area to high speed over the week-end. Traffic on the highways was very heavy. Lieber Park took on the population of a city with 5645 paid admissions, an estimated 3700 children and 2148 cars. The estimated count of boats on the lake Sunday was around 1000. The Cunot docks are back under the jurisdiction of the park. To stop conflicting reports of a new entrance fee: The admission fee is 35c per car, 20c per person over 12 yrs of age, 25c for boat or ramp fee, which adds up to $1.00 for a car, two persons and a boat. The week-end saw 579 campers using the park’s camping facili-
ties.
Hulman Beach was crowded. Two small groups of Boy Scouts from Indianapolis came down for over-nights. The Sherwood Christian Church of Greencastle, is begining it second week of summer camp and a church group from Chesterfield came f<*r a week-end of camping. General Electric workers counted 300 at their picnic Sunday. R. C. A. also held a picnic for employees and their families. Federal men were on hand to take a survey of park facilities and to report what park facilites are most important and most urgently needed, Elame Houk of Honk’s Lake Village is a proud grandmother. TURNPIKE TRAVEL INSURANCE
Take to the turnpikes on your vacation this summer — they’re three times safer than ordinary highways, according to National Safety Council. One reason for this “travel insurance” is steel median guard rail which eliminates deadly head-on crashes by preventing cars from crossing over into opposite lanes. New Jersey Turnpike, nation’s busiest highway, has not had a single cross-over fatality since it installed guard rail down the center of most of its 118-mile length. Pennsylvania Turnpike is another bustling highway being modernized by installation of this steel lifesaver.
