He supported the action taken by UAW vice president Leonard Woodcock, head of the union’s GM Council, when the violence was first reported Thursday night. Woodcock immediately sent two top union officials to the picket lines to halt the violence. “The UAW does not and will not condone violence in a strike,” ' Woodcock warned the strikers. “Violence does not solve a worker’s problems. It only creates new and unnecessary* ones. ” The violence occurred at the Cadillac assembly plant in Detroit, where 7640 workers halted all production of Cadillacs by j walking off their jobs Thursday.
