Cubs Win, 78-56, In Ragged Game In a 'rather ragged exhibitior of the hardwood court sport Greencastle defeated Brazil. 78 to 56. heie Tuesday night and the Tiger Cubs got revenge for a 64-62 upset handed them by the Red Devils last Jan. 7. Visiting Brazil tried to make it a battle and with the Cubs leading, 8-3, the Red Devils rallied to knot proceedings at 8-8 and 12-12 and were ahead, 13-12 at the quarter. Clyde Spencer, Ray Bean.ar and Gib Brown led the attack in the second per.od that gave Gieencastle a 40 to 34 advantage at halftime. The Cubs were making a lot of mistakes on passes and they got caught with their defense down on several occasions, enabling the Red Devils to register layup shots without a Green (astle player in the immediate vicinity. Greencastle outscored Brazil. 19 to 10 in the third frame and it was 59 to 4. It was the same story in the final stanza, the Cubs collecting 18 points to 12 by the Red Devils, the local netters winning, 78 to 56. Tom Grayson and Max Wolverton looked best for the losers while Bob York and Lee Dickey played prominent roles in the Greencastle victory. In the preliminary, the Brazil B team clobbered the Tiger Cublets, 54 to 34.

INDIANAPOLIS UP — Fort Wayne South, whose 15-2 record s the second best among the Intiana high school basketball powers, today supplanted defendng state champion South Bern. Jentral as "top dog” in the United Press coaches’ poll. Don Reichert’s lofty Archers, 1 pinning their hopes for the state title on a veteran crew, polled 7 j of 18 first-place nods from the experts and a total of 159 points, 13 more than the South Benders who slipped to second place. South Side has been in the U. P. "Big 10 - ’ throughout the season. The Archers were second last week but earlier in the campaign dropped to ninth. The South Benders have led the elite in 6 of the first 8 weeks of the poll. The only other leader was Lafayette early in the sea son. Fort Wayne Central remained third. Terre Haute Garfield with a nifty 17-1 record through last Saturday, clung to fourth, and Indianapolis Tech was again seventh. Jeffersonville also was promoted from 10th to fifth- following its one-point victory over Indianapolis Attuc ks, but the latter and three other teams skidded somewhat. Attucks slipped from fifth to sixth place, Kokomo from sixth to a tie for seventh with Tech, East Chicago Washington from eighth to ninth, and Laf jyette also from eighth to 10th. There was no newcomers to the select circle. Garfield polled five first ’out failed to climb to third place by just thiee votes. Fort Wayne Central amassed 128, Garfield 126. There was a big gap in the balloting for the remaining "Big 10” spots, with Jeffersonville getting only 59. Twenty-seven teams were nominated.
