Reelsville staged a fictional “Frank Mm Swell” finishe Saturday night to edge Cloverdale, 73 to 72, for the 1958 Putnam County high school basketball championship in the Greeneastle gymnasium. Theie was nothing fictitious, however, about the way Indian ace, Jerry Lewis, grabbed the bail and drove under for a layup with five seconds to go to register a one-point victory for the Washington Township ag-
gregation.
Needless to say, the Reelsville fans were absolutely delirious when the final gun sounded and the Clovers backers just couldn’t
| believe it.
The game was a battle all the wjy with the Indians holding a j scant 13-12 advantage at the quarter and a 36-33 lead at half- : time. During the first twe periods the score was knotted seven time at 2-2. 4-4, 11-11, 1919, 21-21, 27-27, and 29-29. It was all even during the third frame witii both teams collect i”g 19 points. Incidentally, Lewh woh had racked up 18 points in : the first half, went scoreless during these eight minutes, and the (ount was 55-52, Reelsville. In the last quarter, Jim Sharp put Cloverdale ahead, 70 to 67. Lloyd Broadstreet missed a free throw for the Clovers and Lewis hit to make it 70-69. With a minute to play, Jim Sheese dropped i in a pai'- of tosses from the ehaiity stripe after Bob Renner committed his fifth personal and n appeired that Cloverdale had it sewed up, 72 to 69. Eri Hammond had another idea, however, and lie connected from ihe side to make it. 72-71. In a furious scramble in mid court. Lewis gaine 1 possession of the ball and went under for the ] winning basket snd it was all over with Reelsville the champs.

They managed to •scr S' the tempo in the second levied and led. 29 to 21, at the rest intermission. ReeDville then forged into a 11-30 margin a: the three quarter lost and flashed under the wire n the home stretch. 59 to 40 Pat Rady and Bob Baird lookd mighty good in defeat for Roacndale. Again it was Lewis with 10 noin*- who spearheaded the Indian attack. Cardinals Defeated Fillmore provided Cloverdale vith plenty of worry in the ther semi-final scrap, especially luring the first half. The East Putnini Cardinals rtpiay:.! the husky Clovers in he opening frame and were uicad, 17 to 16. Coach Glenn Steele managed o g.-t his Cloverdale outfit going in the second stanza and the
