IX MEMORY In memory of our wife and mother, Mrs. Sylvia Catherine Sutherlin, who passed away Decomfcer 25, 1956. She always leaned to watch for us, Anxious if we were late. In winter by the window. In summer by th gate. And though we mocked her tenderly, Who had such foolish care. The long way home would seem more safe. Because she waited there.
Her thoughts were all so full of us, -She never ccCJld forget’ And so I think that where she is, She must be watching yet. Waiting till we come home to her, Anxious If we are late— Watching from heaven's window, Leaning from heaven’s gate. Sadly missed by husband and children. 25-lp FIN CASTLE Mr. and Mrs. Russell Reams and sons were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Win. Kirk ham Sunday in Oreencastle. TODAY’S BIBLE THOUGHT Lay up his words in your heart. Job. 22:22. The Bible covers thespan of human life on this planet and beyond when the world was just a nebulous mass. The gorge of the Grand Canyon proves that there are sermons in stones. The pure in heart can see and hear Him who created it all. FIRST THOUGHTS Xo man knows as much as he’s willing to tell you. Funeral Home 222 E Washington St. PhonsSS Ambuloncg Service Sheinwold on Bridge Don’t Rely On Opponents To Give You A Present By Alfred Sheinwold Since West didn't look a bit like Santa Claus, his club opening lead should have warned South of danger. However, South ignored the warning, and down he went. North dealer North-South vulnerable North
West led the singleton efub. and South foolishly finessed dummy’s queen. East won with the king of chibs jind returned
the nine of clubs.
West ruffed and correctly read the nine of clubs «a high card) as an indication that East want?d a return in the high rather than the low side suit. West herefore returned a heart rather
than a diamond.
HOLDS LOSING DIAMOND East took the ace of hearts and 'ed another club. South had to ruff high and could then draw trumps. At thi« stage, dummy had two good clubs, on which South could discard diamonds. This left him with a losing diamond. and the contract was
herefore defeated.
Cautious play would bring the contract home. Declarer takes the ace of clubs, draws three rounds of trumps, and then knocks out the king of clubs. East returns a diamond, and South finesses the queen, losing to the king. West rmist now shift 'O hearts. East takes the ace of hearts and lead-* another diamond. but South needs no further finesses. He takes the ace of diamonds, leads a heart to dummy, and cashes two good clubs to
make the contract. DAILY QUESTION

GIRL SUOl'T NEWS
Greencastle Girl Scouts of Troops Xo. 2 have recently completed several community services projects which added to the Christmas cheer- of patients at the Putnam County Hospital. Craver’s Nursing Home and the j residents of Putnam County Home. Nut cups made by the girls which they filled with candy were taken to 46 patients at the hospital, 19 patients at the Nursing Home and to 21 residents of the County Home. At the latter- place the Scouts visited with the elderly people and carols were sung wherever- they j went. Being privileged to share the Christmas spirit with the ill and elderly was a valuable ex-
perience for the girls.
Following their caroling a Christmas party and gift exchange was enjoyed at the home of S.rsie Glidewell. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Ted Glidewell. Those attending were Sue Domasco, Terry Flynn, Judy Scholl, Carol Rector, Mary Beth Frazier, Ann Nanovsky, Margaret Ooley, Pat Riley, Joan Stout, Susie Yor k, Shirley Porter
and Susie Glidewell.
