Blonde Nifty Is Making Comeback

HOLLYWOOD (UP)— Movieand's greatest disappearing act eatures Shirley Jones, the blonde lifty who starred in the biggest novie musicals of all time—“Okahoma” and “Carousel” —and .hen vanished as if through a -rap door. Touted for stardom and riches, Shirley’s bovine good looks left the public cold. For more than i year after completing “Carousel” which laid an egg Shirley was just another one of the Jones girls. A flash in the pan. She couldn’t get a walk-on in a Bowery Boy epic. Now Shirley’s back in business with Pat Boone in a new picture and her career is on the upgrade once again. How come ‘T’ve lost my baby fat,” Shirley answers frankly. “I used to be apple-cheeked and corn-fed. The milk maid type isn’t stylish any more, and I looked as if I'd just left the farm. It’s a disadvantage for a girl to appear well-fed these

days.”

To compete with the Audrey Hepburns and Ann Blyths. Shirley has lost seven pounds. Doesn’t sound like much, but she’s also managed to rearrange her

curves.

Two years ago her measurements were 36-24-36. Now she’s slimmed down to a less buxom

34-21-35.

‘T was only 19 years old when I made “Oklahoma,” she laughed, “and I still had some of that teenage chubbiness. I didn’t have much acting experience, either. “Since then I’ve studied drama and worked in New York theater and TV to help prepare me for

the movies.

Opening lead — A10 Most of the experts reached a contract of six spades. Moat of them wound up on the wr ong side of the ledger. The play at these tables was very simple. South won the opening club lead, drew trumps, and tried the heart finesse. East took the king of hearts, and West eventually got the ace of dia- | monds. Down one. A few of the experts managed to eteal the slam by playing for a defensive error. At these tables, South won the first club and led the singleton ! diamond at the second trick. WEST DECEIVED This looked like a familiar sit- ' nation to the West player. It j seemed that South had to guess j whether to play the king or the i jack of diamonds from dummy. Experts train themselves to react quickly and calmly in situations of this kind. They learn to play low without a quiver, thus giving the declarer every opportunity to guess wrong.
