The new look in highways is here . . . designed for the future with durable, sound-conditioned concrete.

Not a “thump” in a thousand miles . .. New-type, sound-conditioned concrete for the Interstate System

Developed to meet the 1975 standards for America’s greatest highway building program

Everything a good driver wants— new-typo concrete has! It’s soundconditioned. Laid v^nntinuously, this pavement has no joints . . . only tiny, almost invisible cushion spaces, sawed into the concrete. You skim over them and don’t know it! Hut there’s more to new-type concrete. The surface won’t roughen from the effects of freezing. thawing and de-icers. A special granular base keeps this pave-ment-flat and solid. And new-type

concrete has a life expectancy of 50 years plus. First costs are moderate. Maintenance costs? Up to 60*0 less than for asphalt. Extra safety is built in. Grainy surface resists skids . . . and you see up to 4 times better on lightcolored concrete than on a dark surface. Over 90~r of America's most heavily travelled roads have been built of concrete. It’s the preferred pavement for the new Interstate System of super-roads.

The true cost of your new highways It all depends on how long they last. New-type concrete has a life expectancy of 50 years and more. First cost is moderate. Maintenance costs are lower than for any other type of pavement. That’s why tax dollars go farther with concrete.

Allred and his family. Everyone is invited.. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Benson ->nd Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Crawr,y have just returned from a month’s vacation ti ip which covered 8000 miles. At San Diego. California they visited apprentice seaman Harley Alan Benson and his wife, the former Jackie Crawley. A highlight of the trip was to watch as Harley left the U. S. A. for foreign service. They stood on

Point Loma, an elevation of one mile, to watch the departure of 14 destroyers. As the fleet of ships sailed out of the harbor they signalled with lights (as was previously arranged) and the Bensons and Crawleys returned the signal with their cu lights. The destroyers will land

first at Pearl Harbor, then Australia and on to patrol t.'.e waters of Formosa. The party which now included Jackie Crawley Benson and her baby daughter. visted Disneyland, Balboa ^ark and on to Old Mexico where the men went on a deep-sea fishing expedition caught fish too!

Their next destination was Beeville, Texas, a jet station, to visit with the Benson daughter, Pat, and her husband, 1st Lt. John Robert Murriss and their three children. Aiming the numerous points of interest here they attended a rodeo, which to them was the most outstanding event.
