LAFAYETTE (UP)—. Recent rain overcame a deficit in certain a reas of Indiana and experts said today soil moisture is in ‘‘excellent condition throughout the
state.”
State climatologist Lawrence A. Schaal reported in a summary of last week’s weather: “The bank account’ with respect to moisture in the soil is | in excellent condition throughout the state. A deficit in some i areas has been overcome.” Robert E. Straszheim, agricul- ! tural statistician, reported in a ] weekly crop report that ‘‘soil moisture is reported adequate now by 70 per cent of the counties while the remaining 30 per j cent indicate a surplus.” “Moisture conditions are such that wheat is coming up to good stands in all areas with the crop nearly all seeded," he said. Strasbheim reported teh soy- | bean harvest is ’’making some progress.” He said only late I planted fields remained unharvested up to last weekend, representing only about 12 per cent of the total acreage. “Com harvest is now about 20 per cent completed,” Strazheim said, “which is somewhat less than last year at this date. About ' 10 per cent has been harvested ! in the northern two-thirds of the state and half in the southern
third.”

Tigers Invade New York State
A pair of three-game winning streaks will meet head-on in Rochester, N. Y.. Saturday afternoon, w’hen DePauw and Rochester tangle in an intersectional contest. Without a single available yardstick, comparison of the two clubs is out of the question. . but the records reveal an number of coincidental similarities. Both teams have won four and ost one; each dropped its second contest; and in both setbacks .he margin was seven points. St. Joe did it to DePauw, 7-0, and Hobart handled Rochester, 2720. In the points-scored department Rochester has averaged 26 per game to 25 for DePauw, and the Tigers have limited opponents to eight points a game.
three points under the Rochester figure. i Starting with a 25-0 victory in 1942. Rochester has won three of its four games with DePauw. Only Tiger decision, 13-12 in 1947, was sandwiched between the Yellow jackets’ 32-6 and 13S triumphs in 1946 and 1948. Coach Bib Hicks and his charges will use air travel both ways on the Rochester trip, thus becoming the first plane-borne athletic team in DePauw history. The game is scheduled for 2 p, m, EST in Fauver Stadium. . Among post-game activities for the Tigers will be a coffee hour with DePauw alumni in Rochester's Faculty Club at 5:30, dinner in the club at 6. and departure by plane at 9:30, arriving in Greencastle at 12:30 a. m. Sunday. Making the trip will be 30 players, including all-conference tackle Dwight Tallman, who has been sidelined since the Valpo game with a leg injury. Members of the traveling squad are ends Pat Ewing, Jack

Only home game schedo ed for the Tiger fledgings, who ire coached by Mike Suavely, the contest is scheduled to begin at 2:30 in Blackstoek Stadium.
