West opened the king of hearts and continued the euit. South xaiffed and noted that his problem was to draw trumps without doling two trump tricks. If South leads out the ace and king of spades, he will lose two tricks to East. Fortunately, there is no need to play the suit so carelessly. South begins by leading out the ace of spades. His next step is to lead a diamond to dummy's queen. Then he leads dummy’s remaining trump. East cannot afford to put up the jack or the queen. South would win with the king of

“What do you think the main difference between your agency and a direct writer is as far as my car insurance is concerned?’’ Mr. Renton asked. “I'm wondering if I should change.” “That’s a fair question,” I replied. “The basic difference is this. spades and drive out the remaining honor with the ten. The nine of spades would later draw the iaeft trump. PLAYS EIGHT East's only chance is to play ‘.he eight of spades on the second round of the suit. This gives South the chance to make a mistake. South thereupon finesses the ten of spades. As the cards lie, this finesse wins. Then the rest is easy. South would be just as happy if the finesse lost. If West could win the second trump trick, only one trump would be left. South would capture that trump later with the king, and he would still >e sure of his contract. This is the general plan fer such suits. Cash one high ea’ I and then take a deep finesse. TJ less the ti'umps are all on he wrong side of you, this s c y play will limit the loes in our suit to one trick. DAILY QUESTIO; As dealer, you hold: P .' K 9 7 5 H—10 5 D—A i: ? C—A K 2. Urge Early Start On Lice Control This is the season of the year

to spray *er cattle lice, accordng to Purdue University entomologists. Lice control practices should be used early in the fall for a head start on the pests. Cattle, infested with lice, rub and scratch against fences, stanchions and other objects, often causing bruises. Close examination of cattle will reveal lice crawling among the hairs.

Lice are a year-round problem; however, damage is usually most severe in late winter and early spring. Since good management has an effect in controlling lice, cattle should be well fed, kept in clean, well-ventilated stables, and not overcrowded. Outbreaks should be controlled by spraying, says Glen Lehkcr,

Purdue extension entomologist. This means that the job must be done before cold weather, since the spray, to be effective, must wet the cattle to the skin. Cleaning and spraying stables, and separating the treated from untreated cattle will also help control the lice. For beff cattle, two pints of 20 percent lindane concentrate in 100 gallons of water is an excellent treatment. Lindane •.honl ! not be used on animals lo ;s than three months old, nor within .’>0 days of slaughter. For louse control on dairy cattle, the only effective materia! now approved by Federal laws is Roteuone. This material comes as a five percent powder and should l>c used at the rate of one one pound in 100 gallons of water. DDT, lindane and other materials are no longer accept-

able for use on diry animals because these materials are known to contaminate the milk, says Lchker. Smaller quantity mixtures of Lindane for beef cattle should be 10 teaspoonsful of 20 percent lindane per gallon of water; for dairy cattle , one and a half teaspoonsful of five percent rotenone per gallon of water.
