“Did you see where a court in New York City made an award in January of $150,000 to a boy aged 6, and $65,000 to his parents, as a result of an auto accident?’’ I asked Milt Higer, whose auto policy was up for renewal. I’m afaid I did,” Milt said reluctantly. "I also read where a motorist made a left turn at only 5 miles per hour, strik i n g a lady pedestrian, and causStoner ing permanent injuries to an arm and leg. The jury gave her $32,000. But I don’t think those big verdicts are fair.” “They ar e large,” I admitted, “but have you ever thought about how much you’d ask if you were crippled for life—or disabled and unable to earn a good living?” “I see how some of those high figures are arrived at,” Milt replied. ‘‘What liability limits do you suggest?” “No one is smart enough to know,” I said. “But in Hunter view of the trend towards bigger court awards, I believe you should carry the highest amount you think you can afford. No one can actually tell how much you may need. The only prudent course is to have plenty.” May we discuss the right kind of AUTO INSURANCE with you, too? Simpson Stoner INSURANCE Phone 6

Cotner said today methods used by Dr. Dillon Geiger in the purchase of property “could be questioned’’ but added he was dropping his investigation involving the former state official and Indiana University. “I am satisfied there wasn’t any criminal activity involved,” Cotner told newsmen following a statehouse conference with Indiana Atty. General Edwin Steers. Giger, former chairman of the Indiana Toll Road Commission and personal physician of ex-Gov. George Craig, previously denied there was anything “wrong” in his land dealings with IU and said he saw no reason to resign as a member of the board of trustees, as suggested editorially by the Bloomington Herald-Tele-phone. “I would say that the practice of using the board of trustees to obtain property could be questioned,” said Cotner, “but it is a matter over which I as a prosecutor have no specific power.” Cotner, who conducted a week'ong investigation of Geiger’s land dealings with IU which records showed made him a profit of several thousand dollars, said he was trying to find some “intent to commit a criminal act.” but he found none. He said he was convinced the sale of lots and trading with the university was “done under the pressure and influence of Dr. Geiger.” Geiger bought the lots, although the deeds specified the sale was to IU and in behalf of the boar d of trustees. Cotner said the board was unaware of the procedure, and that the school then traded with Geiger to get the lots back. Cotner said this type of transaction “hadn’t been done before and hasn’t been done since.” “How else are you going to explain it?” In reply to a request by IU for assistance in the investigation.

Steers said he wrote university | portion to the a president Herman Wells a mem- j n g. ber of his staff would be avail-

able, “but not in the vein of making an investigation or superceding the functions of your local prosecuting attorney.”
