A Little Of... THIS and THAT By JIM ZEIS
How many of you recall that during the middle 1920's Greencastle had a licensed radio station?
GIRL SCOUT DAY CAMP BEING SPONSORED AGAIN
How many of you remember that its call letters were WLAX ?
Yep, back in the “Roaring 20’s” the radio studio was in the old Wabash Valley Electric Company offices, the business rooms now occupied by Headley’s Handware.
The studio was accessible to both the light office and the former J. L. Hamilton music store.
It contained a grand piano, ar few chairs and a mike. Also, a map with pins inserted designating places reporting hearing W r LAX broadcasts.
Plan now to store your winter garments including fur and furlike coats in our refrigerated VAULT. Ask about BOX Storage. Ho/re Laundry & Cleaners. 22-tf

Some good programs were broadcast by WLAX. including talks by city and university officials, concerts by the DePauw Band, as well as performances by talented local musicians.
WLAX did not exist too long, due to the financial angle, as we recall it.
And mention of the 1920’s, reminds us that a price of those days is clearly legible on the west alley wall of the Headley store which reads “Eat Oakley’s Bread. Large one pound loaf 5 cents.” Take a look at it the next time you’re passing.
We are glad to report that the tree growing on the top ledge of the north side of the Putnam county court house is making sturdy progress. It is plainly visible from Jake Hirt’s establishment on Franklin street.
By the way, for safety’s sake, why don’t you let the city police ehe^k your auto or truck. This nre^aufon might save a life and ! t might be your own. The police will be glad to check yom motor vehicle if you will stop P's the department office and let them know.
Things in passing—saw license nlates from 18 of the forty-eight states on cars in the business tistrict yesterday.
It’s sure a rough road to the city dump. You just can’t miss all the holes.
Emory Groner hustling around In the court house getting accustomed to his new duties as deputy sheriff.
Isn’t it about time for Harold Stoner and the “Rollicking Romeos” to start holding forth or the court house lawn?
Must check with my old friend Fay Ray regarding hie summer gardening plans.
Incidentally, Walter Gardner hasn’t reported much fishing ac tivity todate.
Not a pleasant thought for the youngsters just getting out of school, but it will soon be Memorial Day, then Fourth of July then Labor Day and back to school again. The weeks sure pass fast, don’t they?
