New Rules Fcr Union Funds
WASHINGTON (UP)—AFLCIO leaders today appeared ready to lay down new rules to safeguard union funds against the abuses charged up against Teamster President Dave Beck. The leaders also considered rules to “guarantee democratic procedures” in unions to protect them against corrupt officers. The AFL-CIO’s 25-member Executive Council turned to the rules and other anti-corruption projects after tossing out Beck as an AFL-CIO vice president Monday. A top item on the concil’s expected agenda was whether to suspend three small international unions accused—like the giant Teamsters Union—of domination by corrupt influences. The three unions—the Laundry 1 Workers, Distillery Workers and Allied Industrial Workers -were ; involved in alleged welfare fund abuses uncovered by a Senate committee in 1954-55. The three unions with their total 170,009worker membership were warned last February to throw out officers involved in the abuses or face ouster from the AFL-CIO.

Space is usually at a premium in a small apartment, especially those without a separate dining room. Here you have a dining table which is low eneugh to serve as a cocktail table between meals and for casual entertaining. The table stands only 25 inches high and the chairs are scaled for easy comfort when used with it. The beautiful natural graining of the walnut is accented with ceramic tile insets—dramatically chalk white — placed
conveniently to act as coasters for glasses. There is enough space between the tiles for place mats for a dinner service. White tips on the legs of the table further accent the warm tones of the wood. The tile insets are a new de^ sign expression which is being used for decorating lamp and end tables and desks as well. In this case, design and function join hands to create an unusually practical and handsome effect. (Founders Furniture Co.)
