A 10 YEAR OLD IS KILLED LOGANSPORT (UP) - Tcn-year-old Charles Balsbaugh of Logansport was killed late Tuesday when a farm tractor he was driving overturned on a county road west of the Miami-Cass County line. John Olinger, Jr., Peru, was driving past the scene when he saw the overturned tractor in a ditch. He investigated and found the boy’s body underneath.

(UP)—A farm couple tried in vain to pull their 13-year-old daughter through a bedroom window of their blazing home today before heat forced them to abandon her to the flames. It was not until the wall burned away that John Henry Cox, his wife Estelle ana other wouMbe rescuers discovered the legs of the girl, Virginia Ann, had been pinned by her bed against the wall.

The parents were hospitalized later for shock and burns on their hands and arms.

been named director of residence hall and food service, according to President Kussell J. Humbert. Mrs. de Ponte has been a member of the DePauw staff since 1943, receiving her initial appointment a** university dietician and advaneng to director of food service nine years later. As director of residence halls she succeeds Miss Martha Cleavlin, who resigned for health reasons last February after serving at DePauw for 20 years.

COMMUNITY’ CM R MEETS New Marysville Community Club met May 10th with Alice Hatfield. Pres. Eileen Gowin opened the meeting by reading the thought of the month, followed with a solo by Ruby Major. Jaunita McMurtry gave the devotions spending of mothers. Sixteen members answered roll call by naming famous women. Social hour followed with a contest and handiwork demonstration.
