Around 1S80 they came back to Russell town- j ship, and purchased a farm east of Portland Mills on Raccoon Creek. Thene they died; there my parents once lived, and my sister was bom. Amanda died Dec. 3, 1888, and Alex died on Aug. 20, 1892. Their tombstone is at the north end of the old Johnson row of Union Chapel cemetery. They left 11 children; 1—John (18;>6-1934), who was a policeman for several years in In-
Haute. m. Nora Bradfield and | left Ed(.Andrew), Donald and Eldon. *9—Charley (1871-1942) nevet married. 10 — Dolpha (1873-1936), lived in Iowa. ra. Ellen C. Hamilton, and left Glessie (Parson), Lola (Tracy), and Oliver. 11—Mirta <1875- ). living at Fairfield, Iowa, m. Arthur Whittaker and has Darrell. Hazel (Nelsoni. Leland and Wayne. Note: Only 11 descendants of Alexander bear the Johnson name and only two cousins seem to be perpetuating it."

Last rites will be held Sunday at 2 p. m. from the Steubenville Lutheran church, near Patricksburg, for Henry Adam Kieffaber, 84. He was an uncle of Mrs. Mabel Renner and Albert Kieffaber of Reelsville and Emery Kieffaber of Cloverdale. Dr. John Baughman, assistant professor of history at DePauw, has given his personal collection of John Clark Ridpath books to the university’s history department. A native of Putnam County and 1863 graduate of Indiana Asbury. Ridpath taught at his alma mater, achieved fame as a literary historian and was influential in obtaining Washington C. DePauw's gift to the local institution. In recognition of the fine sportsmanship and ability they displayed in winning the Wabash Valley championship last Saturday at Terre Haute, members of the Greencaatle high school basketball squad have been presented with passes to the Voncastle theater by Manager Jimmy Roberts. The passes are good for any six shows the Tiger Cubs J want to see. Similar passes were also issued to Coach Tom Golds- ^ berry. Assistant Coach John See and the cheer leaders.

TIGERS ARE FIRST Idle DePauw returned to first place in the Indiana Collegiate Conference last night after Evansville’s 81-72 victory over Butler on the Aces’ home floor. Sporting a 6-2 record in league play, the local Tigers hold a onegame lead over Ball State (4-2), and Butler dropped to third place with a 3-2 mark. Strung out behind the leaders aie Evansville (4-4), Valparaiso (2-2), St. Joseph’s (2-4), and Indiana State (1-6). DePauw ends a three-week layoff for semester examinations here Saturday night, Feb. 9, in an ICC contest with St. Joseph’s and meets Ball State in Murlcie j the following Tuesday. According to recent conference statistics, Cal Luther's Bengals lead the league in defense with a 62.3 average and in field goal accuracy with a .423 percentage. Jim Smallins of Evansville has canned 54 per cent of his field goal attempts, follow^ed by DePauw’s Bob Schrier with 51 per cent, and Schrier is sixth in the rebounding department with 10.6 gr abs per game. Scoring leaders in the ICC are Butler’s Ted Guzek and Bob Plump, who won 22 8 and 22.0 averages, respectively. Schrier’s 81 points in five league games give him eighth place.
