(Fditor's fote: Manr Indiana komemahers are heart patients. As such the) ha r e keen advised to “take it easy." But <'C' r does a kouseuije take it easy? To help these scorn*-!, an ever-txpandir.e program of the Indiana Heart Foundation deals uith teaching ho-r- lies uith heart trouble (and other ailments) hate to save time end e~.*r. rj execution of household tasks. Beginning scith this article, the first of a ■ ■ - e H-art Foundation covers many of the suggestions uhich are inco-r -rr-d in its classes to aid cardiac homemakers.) raise the dishpan by placing I wooden platform or a square cake pan underneath. “If you intend to sit at the sink, have an adjustable kitchen stool which can be raised or lowered to the proper height,” the Foundation
adds.
Next, consider counter-top work
space.
Although the modern idea is to have all counter tops the same height, the committee members point out that actually a counter for mixing batter and beating eggs should be about the same height as the bottom of the sink. Instead most of them roday are flush with the drainboard. Aside from remodeling the kitchen, the best way to conquer the too-high counter is by sitting. The stool can be adjusted to the proper height. And shelves can either be lowered to within comfortable reach, or extra shelves for everyday articles can be built underneath. > The principle of keeping utensils in areas where they are used mostcalled “pre-positioning”—is a valuable step-saver, the Heart Foundation reports. And it sometimes pays to have double sets of inexpensive utensils like salt and pepper shakers and measuring cups when they are regularly used in two loca-
tions.
Acknowledging the fact that different housewives have different ways of doing things, the Heart Foundation outlines one method of "pre-positioning” items at the three centers. NEAR THE SINK: Foods that require cold water to start, such as canned soups and cereals, utensils for preparing vegetables, like colanders, knives and peelers; a garbage can: and soap, scouring pads and silver polish, etc. NEAR THE MIX CENTER: Flour, sugar, salt, seasonings, mixing bowls, measuring spoons and cups, baking utensils, casseroles, s knife rack, etc. NEAR THE RANGE: Skillets, roasting pans, coffee, pot lids, tea. dutch oven, tools for testing, stirring, basting, duplicate set of sea sonings, carving knife and cutting board.

INDI/.VA HE'HT FOUNDATION Attention—homemakers! Stop doing housework the way mother used to do it—because, let’s face it, mother did a lot of things the hard
.vay.
The Indiana Heart Foundation emphasizes that there are ways of battling the common enemy, “housework fatigue,” without remodeling the whole house. According to the Foundation, it’s more a question of re-doing a few points of view. The Foundation points out, for ex' ample, that you shouldn t walk when you can stand, and you shouldn’t stand when you can sit . . . if you are to beat “housework fatigue.’’ There isn’t anything disgraceful about sitting down to iron . . . sitting down to wash the dishes . . . sitting down to fix vegetables. In setting the stage for saving time and energy, the Foundation experts suggest that every housewife start in the kitchen since the average homemaker spends most of her time there. The committee members point out that the kitchen has three seperate work centers—tlie sink, the range and the area for mixing ingredients. “The height of the sink is allimportant,” according to the Foundaiion. They advire that you first find out if yours is the right height for you. “Stand comfortably and let your arms hang down in front of you. The paims oi your hands should rest on the floor of the sink. “If it is too high you should have a step to stand on; if it’s too low.
. —LEADERS CALLED i possibly not until further reac- ! , tion is received from nations abroad. Democratic leaders declined to commit themselves in advance. Their support is vital if the plan is to have any hope of being adopted by the Democratic Con-
gress.
The proposal already has drawn fire from some Democrats. Others have suggested privately that Mr. Eisenhower, as commander-in-chief, doesn’t need advance congressional approval to use American troops in international emergencies. The "Eisenhower Doctrine” came under fire Monday on the international front from two Arab nations in th e Middle East. Egypt and Syria denounced it. American officials expressed confidence it would win widespread support from the free world when it is better under-
stood.

POLICE TICKETS SET LAZY HUSBANDS TO WORK MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (UP)—During a cleanup campaign Patrolman John Rehse ticketed 14 homeowners for allowing trash to pile up around their homes. He was back a week later to check up on results and was greeted with profuse thanks from some grateful housewives. One explained:
