Mrs. Bj-ron f rothy Is Hnstr*ss To Club The Roachdale Philornath Club met Thursday, November 15, at the home of Mrs. Byron Crosby. Fifteen members answered roll call with one guest present. Mrs. Glenn Irwin, president protem, presided over the business meeting. Mrs. Crosby gave a Girl Scout report and explained the Girl Sccnit fund raising drive which will be this month. The club voted to give a generous amount to the Girl Scouts. After the business meeting Mrs. Edgar Duckworth gave an interesting travelog on her recent trip to North Carolina and the Smoky Mountains. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess and Mrs. Ralph Edwards, the assistant hostess.
O’NEAL IS HONORED INDIANAPOLIS (UP)—Robert O'Neal, Indianapolis, was vot•d "Sheriff of the Year” Tuesday at the Indiana Sheriff’s Association meeting. O’Neal, who this rear sought the Democratic gubemartcrial nomination and later was defeated in his bid for nomination as lieutenant governor, was cited for “great improvement and progress” in the Marion County Sheriff’s office.
NEWS OF BOYS FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (ANTNC)— Army Pvt. Delbert M. Hedge, 17. son of Mrs. O. M. Pickett, Roachdale, Ind., recently ; began six months of active duty training at Fort Lecnard Wood. Mo., under the Reserve Forces Act. Hedge is receiving eight weeks of basic combat training.

HAD C LOSE CALL BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (UP) — Ronald E. Ward, 19, Speedway, may owe his life today to a pile of discarded dance decorations heaped beneath a window of the Delta Upsilon fraternity house. Ward, an Indiana University freshman, fell from a third-floor window of the house Tuesday, apparently while walking in his sleep. He was hurt but not seriously when he landed on the decorations.

SOCIETY Greencastle F. H. A. Holds Initiation The Greencastle chapter of F. H. A. held formal initiation Tues day evening at the high school building. Twenty girls were initiated into the organization in an impressive candlelight ceremony and each was presented a red rose the club flower. Officers in charge of the services were presi dent. Sue Caspar; vice president Nancy Richards; secretary, Marilyn Mann; acting treasure. Janet Johns; historian. Opal Smithers; parlimentarian, Janice Foxx; news reporter, Patty Steele. Preceding the initiation a delicious pitch-in dinner was enjoyed by the girls and their parents. Games were played and two girls presented a pantomine.
Veterans of World War I will meet Friday evening at 7:30 in the rooms over Fleenor’s Drug Stor. Mrs. Stella Crodian has gene to Indianapolis to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with hc v children. Mrs. Lura Crawley left Wednesday to spend Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs. Marion Crawley at Lafayette. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene M. Peck and son of Michigan City, wil' spend the Thanksgiving holida; with Mr. Peck’s mother, Mrs. Kenneth Peck. Mattie Riggs, 66 was arrested and lodged in the Putnam county jail at 2:43 a. m. Wednesday by city police on a public intoxication charge. She was taken into custody on Liberty street. Students in the Greencastle public schools were dismissed this afternoon for the annual Thanksgiving vacation. Pupils will report back to their respective buildings at the regular time next Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Snider and daughter, June, of Washington, D. C. will spend the Thanksgiving holiday with Mr. Snider’s mother, Mrs. Minta Snider. Mr and Mrs. Fremont Power and sons of Indianapolis will be Mrs. Minta Snider’s guests on Thanksgiving day. Procter & Gamble, believed to be the first corporation to include special scholarships at women’s colleges in general aid-to-education program, today announced the 47 colleges and universities which will be offering P&G scholarships next year as part of the company’s $650,000 amnual educational assistance program, according to Neil H. McEllroy, president. DePauw University is included in the list of Universities.
Mrs. Solomon Hostess To Groveland Club The Groveland Homemakers Home Demonstration Club met Nov. 8 at the home of Mrs. Albert Solomon with 11 members and seven children present. Our roll call was a bake exchange. The meeting opened with reading aloud the Club Creed. The lesson on “Proper Lighting in the Home” was given by Mrs. McCormmick. A safety lessem on “Fire Hazards and Slick Roads in Winter” was given by Mrs. Harold Pierson. Mrs. Wm. Houser gave the Outlook from the Oct. Farm Journal on “Hog and Poultry Prices.” It was decided to leave the meeting time at, 1:30 p. m. CDT for the present. Mrs. Harold Hyland gave the outline of the club program for the coming year. Mrs. Glen Ruark gave a report on the county Achievement Day Program. It was voted for each member to get a gift to send to a mental patient. An interesting contest was given by Mrs. Harold Ryland and won by Mrs. Ben Parent. The door prize was won by Mrs. Glen Ruark.

Mrs. Ruth Fry Hostess To Club H The Warren Township Home Demonstration Club held their November meeting at the home of Mrs. Ruth Fry, with Mrs. Nina Shank as hostess. In the absence of the president the vice president presided. Club creed was read and the song of the month sung in unison. As the secretary-treasurer was absent, no report was given. Roll call was answered by six members and one guest, Mrs. Walker, who later became a member. Mrs. Roxie Torr reported on garden, Mrs. Pauline Sanford on health, Mrs. Mary Kendall on safety. Officers elected for the coming year were: president, Mrs. Pauline Sanford; vice president, Ruth Fry; secretary-treasure, Louise Bridges. The next meeting will be Thursday, Dec. 6th, at the home of Mrs. Mary Kendall with the annal pitch-in dinner and gift exchange. Each member is to bring her secret sister a gift and roll call will be to reveal your secret sister’s name. Dinner will be at 6:30 and each member is asked to bring a guest. During the social hour the hostess served lovely refreshments.

Club Members Met At Armory Monday Good Grooming and Beauty Suggestions, geared to the time ■chedule of a busy homemaker, was the theme of a most profitable and most interesting all day session hel l for Horne Demon--tration Club members at the National Guard Armory on Monday, November 19. Instructors for the lesson were Mrs. Wendell Thomas of th c West Madison Club; Airs. HaroH Smith, of the Chez Nous Club Mrs. Austin Kircher. Happier Homes Club; and Mrs. James ; Craig of the Club Sixteen. All ladies participating | brought along their own good grooming supplies and equipment and as the day progressed they immediately put into practice tne suggestions presented to them in the lesson.
