the Caterpillar plant here. Negotiators met until 2 a. m. attempting to iron out differences, but broke up without any results. No resumption of negotiations was scheduled this morning. Meanwhile at Decatur, where 2,500 workers were idled Wednesday at the Caterpillar plant there, union and management representatives went into a meeting at mid-morning in an attempt to settle the walkout. A dispute over an alleged speedup of production workers at the plant here flared into a strike Tuesday. An incident involving a foreman and a welder who was ordered to work faster, triggered the strike. The plane personnel totals about 26,500 persons, including the 19,000 production workers. The Decatur strike, which began early Wednesday afternoon, was called by Local 751 of the United Auto Workers because of dissatisfaction over a proposed apprenticeship job classification, which union and management representatives had been discussing for several weeks. The plan had not been made effective.

HOBART, Ind. (UP) — Experts from the state crime laboratory worked with the coroner today in an effort to determine whether 16-year old Lana Brock was buried alive by a sex maniac. The girl's bruised and nearly nude body was found buried in a sandbank in New Chicago, Ind., Tuesday. She had been missing from her home in New Chicago for a week. Deputy Coroner Warren Pike said a superficial examination had not determined the cause of death, but he promised full results of an autopsy today. Meanwhile, 30 law enforcement officers sought the slayer but said no definite leads had turned up. They believed a sex maniac attacked the girl, and may have buried her alive by kicking sand down upon her from the sandbank in which she was found. She was clad only in a brassiere and shoes. A white blouse, blue jeans and other clothing lay nearby.
State Reports 17 Polio Cases INDIANAPOLIS, (UP)— The State Board of Health reported 17 polio cases were added to its records last week, the lowest weekly total since before August. Many of the cases reportea during the week occurred previous to that period, including seven before September. Indiana had 19 polio cases during the same week a year ago. The 1956 total now stands at 280, compared with 325 for the corresponding period in 1955. Only 29 of this year's victims had received at least one shot of Salk polio vaccine. Two more polio deaths were added to records during the week, bringing the death toll to 12, compared with 14 in the same 1955 period. Lake County turned in reports of three cases last week. Adams and Jennings Counties each had two cases. Single cases were reported from Henry, Jefferson, Madison, Morgan, Porter, Posey. St. Joseph, Tippecanoe, Vigo and Whitley Counties. The deaths were reported from Tippecanoe and Vigo Counties.
