SOCIETY Kappa Delta Phi Meets This Evening Kappa Delta Phi soiority will hold its regular business meeting this evening at 7:30 p. m. at the Public Service room.
District PTA Conference To Be Held Oct. 11th The Autumn Conferense for Region 5 of the Indiana Congress of Parents and Teachers lnc. , is scheduled to be held Thursday, Oct. 11, 1956 at the North Side School, Washington, lnd. All council president’s have been contacted asking them to participate in the afternoon program. The general theme will be “Suggestions for Success.” Mrs. Ted McAnich, president of Greencastle City and Putnam County Council is planning to take part in the program. All principals, county Superintendents of schools, and all local PTA presidents and other interested persons are invited and urged to attend. Registxation starts at 9:00 a. m. Luncheon will be served at noon. The afternoon sessions will adjourn at 3:00 p. m. Luncheon reservations and money should be sent to: Mrs. Gaylord C. Crow, Sugarland Road, Washington, Ind., by Oct. 8th, 1956. The price of the luncheon is $1.25 each.

THOUSANDS HOLD JOBS DURING MONTH OF SEPT. WASHINGTON, (UP)—The government reported today that 66,071,000 Americans held jobs during September. This employment total was down 700,000 from August. But the Census Bureap said it was an all time high for the month of September. It was 1,400,000 above the employment figure for SepteVnber, 1955.

WOMAN TRIPS OVER DOG; SKULL FRACTURED CHATHAM, N. J. (UP)—Mrs. Nora Ferris, 69, Indianapolis, Ind., died of a skull fracture Sunday when she tripped over a dog in her son’s home and fell down a flight of cellar steps. Police said Mrs. Ferris arrived on a visit moments before the accident at the home of her son, William Meier. The dog dashed into the stair landing and became entangled in Mrs. Ferris’ legs. She fell down 13 steps and struck her head on a concrete wall. LIKE CORN TASSEL CHICAGO (UP)— A Minneapolis woman campaigned today to make the corn tassel the national flower. Miss Margo Cairns said “corn is the basis of American economy.” She said, in paying tribute to it, we “would have a flower that’s really our own.” The rose, she said, was unoriginal.
