Have you looked at a church lately? To almost everyone, the sight of a slender steeple . raised to the sky evokes certain emotions—awe? J perhaps, nostalgia, maybe—the sense that by not V going to church lately, you’ve been missing something ! Next time you see a church, take a good look . .. and let yourself really feel what you see. If that makes you decide not only to look at the outside but also to go inside, that will be all to the good. For no matter how lovely a home you may live in, it can’t compare with God’s House. If you open the door, you'll find that, no matter how long you’ve been away, the welcome is warmer and more wonderful than you’ll find anywhere else.

Dale Makes Rubber Because Of Muzzy’s Bad Defense Do you see how Mr. Dale could make four spades on his hand? Well, he couldn’t against reasonibly good defense. He would have to lose two spades, a heart and a club. But Mr. Muzzy helped him at the very first trick by overlooking one of the most important uses of the rule of eleven. with the ace. MAKES GAME Mr Dale took the heart return with dummy’s ace. led a spade to his ace and cashed the qtieen of clubs. Now he went to dummy with the ace of diamonds, led the king of clubs and discarded his : heart loser. Thus he lost only one ] chib and two spades, making; game and rubber. Mr. Champion looked very grim when he realized what had happened. “Why didn't you play the ten of clubs on the fin*! trick?” he asked Mr. Muzzy when the hand was over. “Then we would have won a club, a heart and two spades.” As you can sec. Mr. Champion’s analysis was correct. Mr. Muzzy claimed he went up with the ace of clubs because he was afraid Mr. Dale might have the singleton queen. But, as Mr. Champion pointed out, the rule of eleven proves that to be impos sible.. APPLY RULE Apply the rule, Mr. Muzzy should have deducted three (the number of the card led) from eleven. The resulting figure (eight) represents the number of clubs higher than the trey, outside of Mr. Champion’s hand Now, six clubs higher than the trey were in Mr. Muzzy’s hand and the dummy. So Mr. Dale must have two clubs higher thar the trey. That was oil Mr. Muzzy reeded to know. If he had played his ten of clubs at trick one, Mr Dale would have had no place t( park is rising heart. As a last desperate attempt at an alibi, Mr. Muzzy argued that his partner’s trey of clubs lead might have been a singleton in which case the play of the ace and an immediate club return might have been the only way to defeat the contract. “Nobody believes that,” said Mr. Champion nastily. “You didn’t return a club at trick two. did you ? And besides, if I had one club, then Dale had six, and he would have bid clubs somewhere along the line.”

the wreck was discovered. They said he was killed outright when the car ran off the road and hit the tree as Fleck drove homeward from a meeting at Fren :h Lick. TRI C K DRIYER KILLED PAOLI. Ind.
