A blazing trash fire about 9 p. m. last night on the Charley Hess property south of the city ! momentarily threatened to 1 spread to a nearby Sinclair bulk plant before the city fire depart- j ment arrived to extinguish it. Last rites for Mrs. Cleo E. Stearley, Reelsville Route 2, were I held from the Rentschler Funeral Home in Center Point at 2 o'clock this afternoon with burial in St. John's cemetery. Mrs. Stearley died Monday in the Clay county hospital at Brazil. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Scott formerly of this community and have lived in Miami, Fla., the past five years are moving to California and will be in the Morton community on the 6th and 7th of August. There will be a carry-in dinner in their honor at the Union Chapel church on i Tuesday evening, August 7th at 7:00 p. m. Madeline O’Hair Is Hostess To Club The Homemakers Club of Monroe township met Wednesday, July 25th, at the home of Madeline O'Hair for its regular meet-

ing.

The meeting was opened by the president, Frances Harris Roll call “Where I would like tx spend my vacation,” was answered by 12 members and if all dreams of future vacations could come true we would be well educated world travelers. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Secretary's report was lead and four flower bills were allowed and paid to the flower committee chairman. No other business

was at hand.

Elva Scobee entertained wi f h an “Add a Letter" contest which was won by Osa Brown. Dainty refreshments were served by the hostess and the rest of the afternoon was spent

in visiting.

DIES OF INJURIES SOUTH BEND (UP) — Mrs. May Stoner, 86. Valpariso, died in a hospital here Tuesday of injuries sustained three hours earlier in a two-car collision in Michigan. Mrs. Stoner was brought to Memorial Hospital after the accident near Union Pier, Mich. Her daughter, Mrs. Mildred Dean., 63, Valparaiso, and Mrs. Irene Stoner, 49, Valparaiso, the driver, were injured.
