driving over the city and tooting their auto horns, but we wonder if Greencastle appreciates what the Cubs have dome. Winning the largest independent high school tournament in the world is no small accomplishment. Greencastle took Brazil 48-45 on the Brazil floor with a garrison finish in a scheduled game and the two clubs are due to meet again at Greencastle Feb 7 when we will see if the Cubs have improved that much. Gertsmeyer, the team they beat, whomped Brazil. 67 to 47. Greencastle defeated Gertsmeyer Terii, 59-51. So it appears the Tiger Cubs are 28 points better than the Red Devils, who we are informed are going to Greencastle
intent on winning.'
A lot of credit is due Coach Goldsberry for the way he sized up the Tech style of play and figured a tight zone defense would cut down the Black Cat's j under-the-basket shots, which it did. The Terre Haute boys had ' to shoot from far out and they |
didn’t do too well.
Joe's big-time earnings, amounting to five millions, sort of got themselves spe t v ’ho t anyone’s checking the bnnk statement. What with Uncle’s Internal Revenue folks as far behind on their work as Joe was ahead on" his spending well, by the time a Louis tax return was reviewed for two years earlier, Joe had spent his next
three year's eaniii -
Uncle is without, J .-e is without and a million bucks worth of tax and interest is out of pocket. Wha-t to do, eh ? Well may you ask. Even Jos Louis himself,
t?Uing this sad tale in a recent Satevepost article, has no idea what disposition can—or will — be made of his predicament. There is a loyal cry emanating from sports friends—take up collection and bail this poor guy cut of trouble. Was he not one of the first Negroes to fight the Communistic threat? Has ne not been an inspirational figure in the sports world? This course is an unlikely, i though humanitarian, one. Who < can pay the taxes on the collection itself ? All right, why not hire Joe as a Presidential golf advisor at i tax-free S100.000 a year? In 10 years, he is even. Or maybe the Bureau of Internal Revenue might work out I a tax settlement, accepting whatever tag ends are retrievable from Louis' confused financial
picture.
L'nless I am away wide of the guess mark, this is about the last eventuality available to the Bureau. Such a chorus of squawks would go up over the land that Congress might have to abolish all income taxes, now and forever. “Why should Joe . Louis get the benefit of a deal like this when thousands of individual taxpayers, large and
small businesses in the land— which have paid exorbitant tax's through their collective noses, and paid ’em smack on the : ue date— receive no aid and

Across The Counter “Did you hear about the sensational offer a competent attorney is making?” I asked Tom and Chuck. Tom is a truck driver, and Chuck works in a store. “No. what's the deal?” they replied. “There's a good attorney who can be retained by any citizen of Greencast 1 e. For just $10 per year he agrees to def e n d you against a n y damage suit, except auto Stoner claims, that can be brought against you. He will investigate the charg. es thoroughly, and fight doubtful claims in court.” Tom exclaimfed. “T h a t sounds wonderful ". •“Yes, .but here is the best part of all. The .“attorn yv” guarantees to WIN all suits of this kind by agreeing to pay out of his own pocket any and all damages he fails to avoid—-up to—$10,000.'' I added. “Whew,” Chuck said, “that's the biggest bargain I ever heard of. Who is this fellow? Where’s his office?” I grinned. ••I was joking about the attorney, Chuck Hunter But one of my insurance com. panics does make that guarantee—and they hire first class legal talent. It's called a Comprehensive Personal Liability Policy. It’s a real bargain. Don’t you agree?” Chuck nodded. And Tom said, "Count me in too.” Simpson Stoner INSURANCE Phone 6
