Seme talk has been heard that the Soil Conservation law might be changed to make it conform to the original law, passed in 1937. At that time, the records show it was a dangerous law for farmers who could be put at the mercy of some conservation supervisor, even to the extent j that one’s farm could be taken, or severs fines could be imposed. It wasn't until nearly 10 years later that more than two censer- ' vation districts had been formed ;n Indiana’ and the law was changed. • O. B { ^ane, of Bainbridge, then senator from this county, was instrumental in getting the change through the legislature in 1945. He had assistance of Anson Thomas and Horace Abbott, Marion county agent. They took the old law, vvhjeh i had been passed by an overwhelming vote and deleted the , objectionable and compulsory j features and made the present law, which is voluntary, so far as compliance is concerned. We i have been unable to find who 1 was behind the original law, but it was vicious and . the mandatory sections could have caused great loss to Indiana farmers had it remained on the books or if as many conservation districts People 60 to 80 We Hav e a Letter We’d Like to Send Your., . . . but we don’t want to send it without your permission! 5* will tell you how you can apply fi r a $1,000 life insurance policv to help take care of final expenses without burdening your family.
