LOOKING TO THE FUTURE'
Mr. and .Mrs. J. E. liorsen In 1905, Roesen Dairy was founded bv the late Mr. and Mrs. •J. E. Boesen in Indianapelis.
TRENT li, years oil, owner of one registered Holstein heifer.
BRIEF HISTORY At thr age of 15, J. E. B'.esen left >iis native country of Dermarit to p irsne Ins chosen vocati. n of dairying. He worked on Wisconsin Dairy Farms to finance his further education. Aft r graduation from the University of Wisconsin, he returned to Denmark only Icn^ enough to hrirj hack to America his 19 year old bride, Helene Peterson Boesen. They chose Indianapolis to start their dairy operations. Times have changed in the capita! city sin-e these times when Mr. Roesen drove a large herd cf cattlr' down West Washington Street in that city. In these early days, Boesen Dairy furnished milk to the Indianapolis City Hospital for eight year . In 1914, th- Bocscn’s moved their ferry tf Cloverdalc, and to its present location on the Boesen Koad in 1921. DePamv University was furnished with milk from the Boesen Dairy for 23 years before th ou'.outs was turned over to wholesale <dianncls.
The Boesen children, consisting of Richard, Victor, Wallace, Marie, Harold and Eric, were introduced into the routine of dairy operations at a very early age. “Baby Sit.ers” were no problem for Mrs. Boesen, she merely took her children to the barn with her while sh^ did her share of the milking. The older children doing their respective chores, whip the little ones, too srrfall to t die or carry a milk pail, sat in cardheard boxes and look 'd on. In those days, hand milking being the only method available, it took (juite s -nctime to milk their 39 to 40 head of Hcisteins.

IN WHICH WE TIKE PRIDE!
We attribute the longevity ot the Boesen herd health record to these factors - an extreme amount of good fortune - a conscientiously followed program of Livestock sanitation; and equally important, we are endebted to Dr. T. A. Sigler for his guidance of our animal health program since the early 1920s, until his retirement.
The Boesen herd produced the larges* calf ever bern alive - weighing 155 pounds - the Boesen herd has cows producing as rnixh as 96 lbs. of weighed milk per day on two-time milking. This is in excess of 11 gallons per day. The big calf on the right, h two days old, while normal Sai? is i ^ r ( sL !
