Occasionally they execute a throw-in, a squeeze or some | other good play to bring home a -haky contract. But the facet of the game which is least known or, in any case least practiced, is that of counting a hand. This consists merely of determining the distribution of each defender's hand and the location of key honor cards held by the enemy. It can be done in concrete fa-shion, as where one lefender shows out on the second lead of a suit and you therefore know that his partner has the rest of the cards in the suit.
INFERENCE
Or, it can be done by inference, as where one opponent bids a suit three times and the other opponent consistently passes, perhaps even with frowns. The first is very long in the suit and the second is very short. That is elemental, I know, but the basic idea is there. Undoubtedly you have run across the non-bridge player who claims he has a friend whose !
