The Locust Grove Club Holds Christmas Party The Locust Grove Club of Monroe township, held its Christmas meeting at the Christian church in Bainbridge Wednesday evening. The first meeting of the club was held in November, 1914, and Mrs. Ray Sallust now of Bainbridge was hostess. It was organized by the women of the Locust Grove vicinity, as a sewing and mending circle. The women, Mrs. Sallust reports, all got on theii sun bonnets and their best bib and tucker and walked to a neighbor’s home to attend the meetings. In those days there were no autos and but few improved highways. Some of the older members recalled that there has been a turnover of about seventy members and today there are about twenty who are active. One of the requirements for membership is that one must live in the vicinity of old Locust Grove school. If one lives more than five miles away, she is not eligible. When a new woman moves into the neighborhood, she is invited to the next club meeting and if she so elects, then becomes a member. One member reported there had never been any gossip in the club, just fancy talk and some fancy mending and sewing. Mrs. Hugh South is president and Mrs. Roy Smith was in charge of the Christmas meeting, which had a Christmas tree highly decorated, a splendid pitch-in dinner, a Santa Claus for the children and gifts for everyone. Mrs. E. L. Gray of Franklin township gave several readings which were thoroughly
enjoyed.
Among the members are Edith Sallust, Zadia Pruitt, Elsie Hanks,, Grace Coffman, Lillie Reeves, Ascha Cassidy, Lucilie Proctor, Bess Bressler, Dorothy Poff. Nora Booher, Louise Booher, Vera Deainger, Regina Ader, Lillian Ellett, Marion South, Jean Bachert, Berneice Smith, Helen Estes, Edith Allen, Bernice Lukenbill and Clara Coffman.
Jones P. T. A. To Meet Dec. 15 The Jones P. T. A. will meet Thursday, Dec. 15, at 2 o’clock instead of Friday, Dec. 9, as previously scheduled.
Needlework Club Meets Saturday The Needlework club will meet Saturday at 1:30 p. m. at the home of Mi s. Bradford Jones, 708 So. Indiana St., for the Christmas meeting. Members are reminded to bring a 50c gift for exchange.
The Koachdale Home Demonstration Club Meets The Roachdale Home Demonstration Club met Saturday, Dec. 3 at the home of Mrs. Grace Call for the annual Xmas dinner. Nineteen members were present to enjoy this. Roll call was answered with a Bible verse. Miss Lilly Britton sang two Xmas songs accompanied by Mildred Fitzsimmons. The Lord’s Prayer was given in unison. New officers were installed by Helen Wilson. Mrs. Betty Ford, president; Mrs. Lenora Sillery, 1st vice president; Mrs. Thelma Goslin, 2nd vice president; Lillie McFerran. secretary; Mabel Thompson, treasurer; Letha O'Connor, cor. secretary. A lovely Xmas story was given by Mary E. Lockridge. After a talk by the new president, the club closed by repeating the club prayer, to meet with Mrs. Helen Wilson in January.
