Mr. Muzzy took three rounds of trumps to make sure they were all out and then spread the hand, claiming his contract. “As advertised.’ he sa^d, wittily. Mrs. Keen remarked that she thought the hand should be play-
ed out.
“Why it's cold,’ answered Mr. Muzzy bravely, although now
there was hint of in voice. “I'm trumping my two losing diamonds in dummy.” “Indubitably,” persisted Mrs. Keen, “but may I ask what you’re going to do with the seven of hearts?" “I'll tell you what he’s going to do with it,” put in Mr. Champion angrily. “He’s going to lose it.” HEART LOST That was right, of course. There was no way to avoid the loss of a heart trick to Mrs. Keen’s jack.

Mr. Champion forcefully explained that Mr. Muzzy should have played dummy's ace of spades at trick two. Then he could have entered his hand twice with clubs to lead his two remaining diamonds and ruff them on the board. Now two heart leads would
show up the situation in that suit. At that point the lead of the queen of spades would put Miss Brash in, with nothing left but spades and diamonds. A return of either suit would enable Mr. Muzzy to discard his seven of hearts while ruffing in dummy.
