Its Blackwood Op Bridge Mr. Muzzy Fools Himself On Four Spade Contract Miss Brash had a very bad time of it on this hand. Potentially she had four defensive tricks —two in chibs and two in hearts. In addition, her side had a sure diamond trick. And yet Mr. Muzzy scored a smashing success by bringing home his four spade contract. What irritated Miss Brash most was the manner in which this miracle occurred. West dealer. Neither side vul-
nerable.

Trying to make the safest possible lead, she of^ned a trump. Mr. Muzzy won and cashed two more rounds of trumps Then he led a diamond and reached for the ace to kill Miss Brash's queen. Somehow he didn’t reach far enough, however, and pulled the jack from the board by mistake. TRAFFIC PLAY This turned out to be a terrific play. Poor Miss Brash was in the lead with nothing left but hearts and clubs. Anything she returned was bound to give Mr. Muzzy a trick. After some thought she decided on the nine of clubs and Mr. Muzzy won with the 10. With a great show on confidence he now cashed all of his remaining spades, leaving the A 10 9 of diamonds and two little clubs on the board. Miss Brash discarded down to the AQJ of hearts and the K J of clubs. Mr. Abel's hand didn't matter. Next diamond was led to dummy’s ace and Miss Brash dropped the jack of hearts. She was still in a position to defeat the contract if Mr. Muzzy led a club and finessed the queen. MISTAKE WINS She would win with the king for her second trick and return a club. Mr. Muzzy would have to win with the ace and lead away from his king of hearts. Actually the club finesse was the play Mr. Muzzy had in mind. But unfortunately for his opponents he was under the mistaken impression that he had already won nine tricks. “Well, no use taking a chance for an extra trick, eh partner?” he remarked, as he led a club from dummy and went up with his ace. He followed with the queen of clubs and Miss Brash was in. She had nothing left but the AQ of hearts and had to give Mr. Muzzy a trick with the king.
