Unsworth of Greencastle and guests ot Cincinnati were in West Lafayette on Saturday to witness the encounter between Purdue University and Notre Dame. Traffic was heavy on road 43 north Sunday afternoon. Near i the top of the water works hill, we saw a tractor going north and behind it was a mile of cars, waiting to pass. Other highways were equally as full as was road 43, especially the one-lane loads each way. Word comes from Mancie that Bill Graham, on of Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Graham, former residents of Greencastle, played in the football game between the varsity of Muncie Central and New Castle in which Muncie was the victor. Bill gave an excellent account of himself in his first action with the Muncie Central team.
Mr. Dirks is in receipt of a letter of congratulations from Jack Storms, State Bond Director, saying this county has already gone above its quota for t he year, with a total of $577,969 or 1123 per cent of the county
goal.

INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 24 — (UP)—Federal mediators scheduled a negotiating session today in the Indianapolis stockyards strike, while the Producers Marketing Association made other livestock facilities available to Hoosier farmers. The walkout by CIO United Packinghouse Workers against the Belt Railroad and Stock Yards Co., began at midnight Sunday over a wage dispute. However, the yards had been closed since Friday noon in order to clear the pens in preparation for the strike. Meanwhile, the PMA said livestock will be received from farmers at 10 branches—Terre Haute, Centerville, Amboy, Columbus, Columbia City, Lafayette Logansport, Mentone, Montpeiler, and Seymour.

NEW ALBANY. Ind., Oct. 24. — (UP)—Three Kentucky men were killed today when their automobile and a big truck collided in U. S. 31 a mile north of Speed. The victims were identified as Joseph Earl Campbell, 23, Garland, Ky.; Ralph Campbell, 22, Ella, Ky., and Homer Burton, 19, Garland. Edward Curry, 27, Garland, was injured critically and Richard E. Fox, 38, Ix)uisville, Ky., driver of the truck, was hurt but not seriously.

While in India she traveled over much of the country observing government and Christian medical work and was an eye witness to the riots, confusion and suffering following the division of India and Pakestan. Dr. Carruth and Family Honored at Reception Sunday Dr. end Mrs. Samuel E. Carruth and son Edwin and daughter Fay, were honor guests at reception in the Gobin Methodist church Sunday afternoon. Dr. Canuth began his pastorate of the Gobin church with his initial sermon Sunday morning. Several hundred members of the church and other churches called during the afternoon tc p»iy their respects to the new pastor and his family. At the morning services beautiful baskets of flowers from the Christian church, the Presbyterian church and the Baptist church were in evidence and were mentioned by Associate Pastor, Dr. Frank Travis.

The first two of these organizations are wellknown locally; but less is known of the last group, which is becoming more and more important to teachers and to the communities they serve. The I.C.T.A. operates on the rational, state, and local levels for the purposes, first, of improving the quality of service to pupils; second, of improving the professional status of teachers.
