Why would these top-level players elect to pass it ? Lt)NES03IE HONORS Here is the answer. The weakest high cards you can hold are what I like to call lonesome minor honors. Minor honors, of course, are the queens and jacks. They are lonesome when they arc in short suit with no other honors. Look at the spade and diamond holdings in the North hand. Those queens are fine cards if partner has high cards in the same suits. Otherwise, the Q 7 of spades may be no better than the 7-2. An easy way to understand the deficiency of lonesome honors is to consider a holding of K 2 in one suit and Q 2 in another. If the adversely held honors in these suits are unfortunately placed, your honors will be
