TROPICAL STORM
MIAMI, Aug. 6.—(UP)—A giant hurricane bore upon th :■ Leeward and Virgin Islands today with 125-mile-per-ho.ir winds that might threaten the South Atlantic seaboard. The Miami Weather Bureau has cautioned southeastern ’coastal points as far north as Cape Hatteras, N. C., to watch for possible hurricane warnings and advised against making extended trips in sea craft without radios.
Home Demonstration Club Hr.U= Monthly Meeting The Maple Heights Home Demenstratien Club held their monthly meeting at the Club House at 8:00 Tuesday evening. Meeting w-S called to order by Mis. Louise McKamey. The club creed was given in unison, flag salute and song of the month. Roll call responses w r ere given by a law you would like to have in your city. Discussion of old and new .business followed. Mrs. Emma Albin resigned as secretary and Mrs. Marie Nagley was elected for the ensuing term. A pleasant social hour followed with Mrs. Faye Weaver winning the door prize and Mrs. Lorerte Baldwin contest prige. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Lottie Lane and Mrs. Marie Nagley. Members adjourned after repeating the club prayer.
The tenth trick might be developed by giving up a herm trick and hoping to win three tricks in the suit. This play j would win only if the opposing , hearts were divided 3-3 and th. odds are against that distribution. PLAYS TEN So Mr. Dale correctly decided to niff a diamond in dummy for j his tenth trick. At trick, two j he led the trey of diamonds from ! dummy. He played the 10 over | Mrs. Keen's six and Mr. Abel w r on with the jack. Mr. Abel returned a trump when he saw what Mr. Dale was trying to do. Dummy's jack won and another
diamond lead lost to the ace. Back came another trump but the ’efense was just one tempo behind. Mr. Dale still had one itrump left on the board to take care of his third diamond. After ruffing the diamond, he cashed dummy's ace of clubs, then entered his hand by fuffirtg a small club high. Now he pulled the last outstanding trump and made four-odd, giving up a heart at the end. Jlis line of play would not' have been successful if he had cashed even one round of trumps early in the hand because the time element would have been in favor of the defenders.

WHY, IT’S DORIS KENYON
It s Blackwood On Bridge I Dale Stalls Until It’s To Late For Defenders Miss Brash bid today’s hand in typical fashion. Her reverse bid of two hearts on the second round was a very strong bid as it forced Mr. Dale to go to the level if he wished to make a simple choice of clubs over hearts. We might let that one pass but now When Mr. Dale bid two spades, certainly a raise to three spades was enough on the North cards. North dealer. North - South vulnerable. NORTH .... WORD OF FLYER’S RELEASE
Mr. Dale would have been justified in figuring his partner for singleton diamond, since she had bid two suits, including a reverse, and had theh jumpraised spades. But he knows her enormous optimism and he allows for it. TOUCHY CONTRACT As it happened, four spades was a touchy contract and probably would have been defeated on a trump opening. But Mr. Abel opened the queen of clubs. Dummy’s king won Mr. Dale could | count nine winners off the top. unless one opponent had all five of the outstanding spades.
hoiv would you like to live in the "good old days"?
Back in grandfather's time, during (he final quarter of the last century, things were quite different. I here were no movies, no airplanes, no automohiles, few bathrooms, practically no efficient electrical appliances. II you contracted diabetes or pernicious anemia, your days were numbered. Your blood just "changed to sugar’ in tlic former, 'to water’’ in the latter. There was little protection against virulent epidemics. Smallpox vaccine was the only biological on the market. When diphtheria or typhoid ravaged g community, there was nothing to do but wait if out in hope and dread. Yes, a return to the "good old dav’s ' vnnld mean, among other things, the acrificc r.f the major portion of the contribution of medicine md pharmacy to your health and well-being.
