Mr. Judge had a beauty to settle today. After Mr. Champion bid four hearts, Mr. Dale had a rather easy decision to make. An expert >n bridge humanics, he is not too I ke n on making sacrifice bids | against a fine player like Mr. I Champion. In this case however, Mr. Champion’s partner was Mr. Muzzy and the longer you play against Mr. Muzzy the better off 3 0U are. CHANCES REMOTE On the bidding, the chance of beating four hearts seemed extremely remote. So Mr. Dale .vent to four spades, believing he could hold the set to two tricks or 300 points. LHiring those proceedings Mr. Muzzy's mind was out in left iield. But when Mr. Champion

he had great respect for Mr. Champion’ judgment. Finally, he chose to pass. Mr. Dale then exercised his right to cancel the double and the redouble. As you see his original estimate of the hand was correct. The East-West cards were good for five-odd at hearts, while four spades could not be defeated by more thatt wo tricks. It must be admitted, however, that he never dreamed his sacrifice would cost him only a paltry 100 points.
