EXTRA! WASHINGTON. Feb. 15 — (UP)—A special House investigating subcommittee opened hearings today into the administration's surplus property program which critics say gives all the breaks to "junk dealers.” The subcommittee wants to know why the surplus government property is not being channeled to hospitals, schools, elates and cities. It called as its first witness Bradshaw Mintner, assistant secretary of health, education and welfare, who runs the program. Also scheduled were L. K. Barr , chairman of the National ,*• vociation of State Agencies for Surplus Property, and C. E. Caffrey of the American Cotton Manufacturers Institute.

None of the 35 persons employed at the plant vere injured. The firm, largest industry in his town of about 1.000 populaion, made desks, beds, and television cabinets. EVANSVILLE, Ind., Feb. 15— (UP)—William G. Nunn, 27, was held on a charge of assault and battery with attempt to commit murder today in the death of •Villiam S. Fiece, 28, during an argument. Nunn told police he shot Fiece in self-defense Monday during an argument. He said Fiece held a r>fle when they quarreled and he •vcked up a .22 caliber rifle and shot Fiece in the head for fear jf getting fired at first.

WOMEN TO PARTICIPATE IN PANEL DISCUSSIONS

The Greencastle League of Women Voters will again participate in the W G R E radio series. Greencastle Speaks Up'' at 5:30 p. m. on Wednesday, February 16. The program will be an inormal panel discussion of “Curent Issues in the Indiana Legislature.” The participants will jensider important isues that are not of interest to the League, such as toll roads, extended •oting age, etc. Other issues to he discussed which are of primu y importance to the League of Women Voters because of long study are Home Rule, Election ^mws. Personnel Bill, Public Welfare, Child Walfare, Corrccion, Reappointment and Penal teforms.
