Masters had just enough

for one bid and when Mrs. Keen heard it, she went sti aight to

I game at no trump.

Air. Abel led the jack of hearts and Mr. Cnanipion properly went I up with his king on the chance j that his paa tner had opened a ! suit headed by A .1 10. But Mrs. Keen won with the ace.

I>1 CKS TRICK

She immediately led the queen of diamonds. When this was coveted by the king she was not enticed into playing dummy’s ace. She ducked the trick, permitting the king to win. ^ Again Mr. Muzzy showed disapproval, shaking his head and muttering something aboait having the king trapped and then

letting it get away.

Of course, what Mrs. Keen was trying to do was to make sure of winning as many as fom diamond tricks. If she won the first diamond with dummy’s ace. led a diamond back to the jack and dropped the ten, she would win five tricks in the suit. But -he was not in four no trump tit: prime objective was to win

ust nine tricks. NO ENTRY

As you see, thg 10 would not have dropped. Mr. Abel could iu.vc won the third round of diaiicnds and then there would lave been no entry to the remaining good diamonds on the

joard.

At trick three Mr. Abel led the 10 of hearts and Mrs. Keen won with the'qtfeen. She laid Jown the jack of diamonds and .vas happy to see that both opponents followed suit. Now she led the five of dia- ! monds to dummy's ace and cashi ed the rest of the suit, thus winning four diamonds, two spades, two hearts and a club. Turning to her critic, Mrs. Keen said, “Well, I managed to stumble through some way, didn't

“Very lucky,” said Mr. Muzzy, gallantly.
