Mrs Fusty absolutely refuses I . discuss a hand after it is play- | ■ ! end therefore we will never j know from what ancient store of j k: nvledge she dug up the sensa- | ti n 1 play she made to defeat (this ro'-’ract. But that detracts | nothing from the devasting effect of the play. Mr. Meek led the deuce of i lubs, an obvious singleton, and Bnnimy’s lone king went on. Mrs. Fusty d;d not immediately play the ace, which caused an exIcnge of puzzled glances among i i° kibitzers, if there was ever a good place for an ace, this appeared to be it. Deep In Thought Mrs. Fusty continued to think. Stic believed she could win three tub tricks; na more, because M' . Abel undoubtedly had four to the ten. If Mr. Abel could ihcn win the next ten tricks,

there was no hope tor the defenders. If there was any hope at ail. it had to be because Mr. Meek had all three of the other suits stopped. And if he did, the cashing of three clubs at the start would squeeze him out of those sio'ppers. Mrs. Fusty thought some more. Mr. Meek hadYmly one club and so the cashing of just two clubs would undoubtedly force him to give up a stopper in one of the

other suits. Club Tru k Fatal Good thinking. But the old girl wasn't finished yet. She finally realized that taking even one club trick would be fatal. Suppose she won with the ace ot clubs and returned another suit. Mr. Abel could win and lay down the 10 of clubs, forcing her to win and putting a deadly squeeze on Mr. Meek. So at trick one Mrs. Fusts calmly played the four of clubs.

The kibitzers obviously thougM she had lost her mind. But that didn't help Mr. Abel. In spit# ol the fact that the finesse of the queen of hearts was .successful, he could not win more than three spades, two hearts, threa diamonds and the club- nm« tricks in all. Try out all the variations. You will find that Mrs. Fusty'* refusal to win any tricks at all n her good seven-card suit waa the only way to beat the hand.
