Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hillis have returned home from their summer cottage at Syracuse, where they have spent the past two months. William A. Lawrence Sr., entered the Putnam County Hospital yesterday and will undergo surgery tomorrow morning. This is reported his first illness in more than fifty-nine years. He is now 80. Lloyd Butler. 45, Fillmore R. 1, was fined $15.50 on a speeding charge when he appeared before Justice of the Peace Albert Duncan in Montgomery county on Monday. The Christian Women’s Fellowship group two, will meet Friday afternoon at 1:30 p. m. Oct. 1 at the Roachdale Christian Church basement for its regular meeting. The hostesses will be Osil Robbins, Nellie Jones and Mary Dean. Ppgg.v Cantrell, 2 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cantrell of Cloverdale was painfully injured a few days ago. When riding on a bicycle with an other sister, she caught her foot in the chain of the bike. She was brought to the Putnam county' hospital for treatment of the in-
juries.
Mrs. Floura Sims Nickels, formerly a resident of Belle Union, is seriously’ ill in the Newman Memorial Hospital, Shat- I luck, Oklahoma. Floura suffered ! a cerebral hemorrhage and is partially paralyzed. She is a sister of Mrs. Ethel Woodard of Plainfield a former Belle Union teacher. Mrs. Woodard who has been at her bedside for the past two weeks, returned home Sat-
urday.
J. J. Eitel reports finding a new bug that is working on trees in Greencastle. He says he also found out that it is a new one for Indiana. It is known as the Box Elder bug. is rather small, growing from a quarter inch to a half inch bug. They are beetle like and will soon kill any kind of a tree they might light on. He also reports state entomologists says the way to kill them is to spray the tree with double strength Black Leaf 40.

The final round-up in the financial campaign for the Greencastle Youth Center will be held at the youth building Thursday night at 8:30 p. m. The foremen of the four ranches are busy contacting their cowpunchers so that all 48 teams will be present for the report meeting. It was announced today by Rev. Elmer L. Harvey, round-up chairman, that a total of $4524 has been given in the total cam-
paigns to date.
In the preliminary report meeting held at the youth center lust night, the team of Mrs. Charles Hess and her daughter, Janet, led all others with a total in donations of $95; Andrew Zeller and Mary Flo Hecko reported $85, while the team of Mrs. E. G. Colby and Mary Peterson turned in $80. Team No. 26, Mrs. Laverne Sanford and Jane Hughes were fourth with $75.

The Golden Circle Club met a* LaRue Gray’s Sept. 23 at 7 /clock for an evening meeting. At 8 o’clock the meeting was called to order with Lelia Fellows acting as president. Devotions were given by Daisy. Roll call was answered by 11 members Old and new’ business was taken care of. It was voted to make quilts for the Riley Hospital for Christmas. Eva and LaRue furnished the entertainment which was enjoyed by all. The hostess served lovely refreshments to eleven members and three children. The Mothers Study Club celebrated its 25th anniversary with a dinner at the DePauw Union Build ng Monday evening. Five of the twelve charter members were present. Walnut Valley Club Has Pitch-In Supper Mr. and Mrs. John Stevens entertained the Walnut Valley Home Demonstration Club members and their families Saturday, Sept. 25th. A delicious pitch-in supper was served. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Birkemier Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Neese, Mr. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nichols, Mr. Paul Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice McCullough and Diana, r. and Mrs. Edwin Neese, Mr. and Mrs. Danny Craft and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Montgomery and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Torr, Mrs. Vollie Raab and Miss Mary Raab, Mr. and Mrs. Ross McCullough and Mr. and Mrs. Stevens and childlen. After supper the families gathered arount the fire place for an enjoyable evening. The club thanks Mr. and Mrs. Stevens for their gracious hospitality.
Convention Held
In Newport Church At the 5th District I.F.C. convention held in the M. E. Church of Newport on Sept. 20, Mrs. John Fortner, president of the 5th District stressed the theme of ’’Community Service" as her theme for the ensuing year in
the Federation.
In full accord with this theme is our Putnam County Federation project of aid to the Putnam
county hospital.
The special project fund for furnishing a room in the planned addition to the hospital is already started and clubs are planning their active participation in raising the required funds. Among the members of the Putnam County Federation who attended the District Convention at Newport were the following: Mrs. S. A. Colliver, Mrs. D. O. Tate. Mrs. Wm. Luther, Mrs. Omor Beck, Mrs. Ferd Lucas, Miss Carrie Pierce, Mrs. T. G. 5 uncker, Mrs. Ceeil Brown, Mrs. O. T. Martin. Mrs. Fred Starr, Mrs. Paul Mahoney, Mrs. J. R.
South, Putnam County Federation president, Mrs. A. F. Higgins, Mrs. John R. Cox, Mrs. Russell O’Huver. In the recent list of presidents of County Federation clubs, the name of Mrs. Chius. Rector as president of the Women’s Study Club was omitted. Mrs. O. T. Martin is the president of the Woman’s Club. Also Mrs. Chas Bourne of Roachdale, R. 2 and Mrs. E. C. Duckworth of Roachdale assisted as hostesses in the Heart Kitchen at the State Fair on the day assigned to Putnam county Federation and their names were not included in the report. AUBURN. N. Y (UP) Frol Saeger, 28, brought a ham to hi-: father in Auburn State Prison. The act landed him in jail. Police say he stole the ham in Pennsylvania.
F.H.A. MEETING The Bainbridge Chapter of the Future Homemakers of America held their first meeting in the new home economics department. The new officers took charge of the meeting. The president, Marcia Collett, called the meeting to order. Betsy McCall, song leader, led F.H.A. songs. Forty-three members answered the roll call. The minutes were read and approved. The treasurer gave her report. Reports were made on the FHA state convention by Diane Steward, Shirley Fitzsimmons. Sandra Clodfelter, and Betsy McCall. These girls gave interesting talks on their stay at the Terre Haute House. They were presented with an honor chapter ribbon which we will mount in our scrapbook. The members voted to purchase draw drapes for the new Home Ec department. The members also voted to sell cards as a money raising campaign Our chapter plans to try hard for another honor chapter for the year 1954-55.
