Its Blackwood On Bridge Visualize Partner's Hand To Help Make Your Bid It is good advice that you should not be satisfied to bid your own cards alone but should try to visualize the entire 26 cards in the partnership as a
unit.

The bidding: West North 1 S Pass Pass Dbl.
All Pass
When a player passes out an opposing bid of two diamonds and finds out later that Ins s. N could have made two or threeodd in another suit, you often hear the complaint, “Well, how could I keep it open? 7 only had an average hand.” This player is bidding his own 13 cards- one half his side's potential. The opponents are not crazy. They know there is w a bonus that goes along with bidding and making a game con-
tract.
If they are willing to stop at a measly two diamonds, then neither one of them is very strong. If our short-sighted player is not very strong either, then his partner, unless it’s a faulty
deck must have some strength THE FINER POINTS Before we get into the finer points of balancing (backing into the bidding after the opponents have dropped it at a low level) let's look at the reasoning applied to today’s hand, a typical situation. Mr. Truex coreetly decided not ta come in over Mr. Championb one-spade opening. His main strength was in a suit bid against him and he had no ically good suit of his own. With not enough to go to the two level Mr. Dale settled for a 1-no-trump call. Obviously Mr. Masters couldn’t dream of bidding at this point because as far
is he knew Mr Champion's hand might be just a queen short of an opening game-forcing bid. KNEW WHOLE STORY Now when Mr. Champion passed, Mr. Truex knew the whole story. Neither of his opponents were strong so Mr. Masters was bound to have some strength. He doubled, glad to have his partner pass for penalties or bill, as his holding demanded. Mr. Dale didn't relish the possibility of playing at one no trump doubled and his 2-club hid was definitely a rescue. Now Mr. Masters was well able to compete with a 2-heart bid which became the contract. He made 3-odd, losing a spade, 1 two diamonds and a club.
