CXBS DEFEATED The Tig?r Cub brjvb'ill team was defeated by Crawfordsville 18-3 Tuesday evening at RobeAnn Paik. Crawfordsville collected 18 runs on 13 hits and 7 Cub errors. Cuba collected 3 runs on 7 hits and 3 Athenian errors. Duncan, Braden, Clark and Bridge* were on the mound for the Cubs. Duncan and Braden, the Cubs regular pitchers, arc both plagued with sore arms. The next Cub game is with Spencer, here Thursday. EfiLY MAN’S CONTEST The big drive to select an Ugly Man at DePauw is .now under way. This contest sponsored annaully by Alpha Phi Omega, national service fraternity, U run in conjunction with the American Bed Cross. Every nickle contributed to the Red Cross entitles you to one vote for a candidate. Voting booths for this contest, which last year netted in excess

of $1300 are in both Harrison and Asbury halls. The Ugly Man contest will end Saturday at 2 p. m., with a campus variety show at the U. B. Winners will be announced then and both trophies and gifts will

be presented.

An Easter program will be given immediately after Sunday school at the Union Valley j church, next Sunday April 18tn. A Maundy Thursday service of Holy Communion will be held at the Gobin Memorial church on Thursday evening at 8 o’clock. The public is cordially invited. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bressler are at home from Florida where they spent the winter. Both enjoyed the summer weather and brought home a real summer tan. There will be Good Friday services at the Fillmore Methodist Church, April 16 at 7 p. m. There will be special music. The last seven words of Jesus’’ by Rev. Wm. Tresslar. The Fillmore Methodist Sunday School will start at 9 a. m. April 18, so we can attend Easter Seitvices elsewhere. There will be some transportation furnished to Amo Methodist Church. Dr .and Mrs. W. L. Veach of Bainbridge are enjoying a vacation in Miami, Fla. They were joined there today by Dr. and Mrs. Richard Veach who flew down from Indianapolis. Bill Clark entered St. Vincent’s hospital in Indianapolis Wednesday, April 7th, and underwent major surgery Saturday. He is recovering satisfactorily. His room number is 206. He would like to hear from his friends. Greencastle Barrack 114 Veteran of W.W.I will meet Friday evening at 7:30 at the council room in the city hall. All veterans of W.W.I. are cordially in-, vited to attend and become affiliated with the new veteran's group for the buddie of 1918 only.

A prayer meeting will be held at the Clinton Falls Methodist church Friday evening at 7 o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Fenwick and son. and Mrs. George Fenwick. left Wednesday for Denver, Colorado, to spend several days with Mr. and Mrs. Marion Whisler and family. Morris Irwin, 41, Judson Route 1, was arrested by local officers on North Jackson street at 3:40 a. m. Wednesday. He was booked at the Putnam county jail on a public intoxication charge. Special Easter service at the Putnamvilie church Sunday. April 18th. Morning worship will be at 9:30 a. m. Following the worship service, three people will be taken into the church. The program committee for this service is Mary Catherine Sutton, Bernice Lewis and Georgia Sublett.

A $100 check from the Alpha Delta Sigma Fraternity has sent the 1954 Putnam County Heart Fund orver its quota of $1380, Mrs. Cecil H. Brown disclosed yesterday. The county heart chairman also announced that new research on the possibility of using plastic tubes as substitutes for diseased blood vessels in surgical treatment will be furthered through contributions to the Heart Fund campaign.

An Emory University professor, Dr.' Claude Thompson, will deliver the Good Friday chapel address at DePauw University this Friday, April 16, at 10 a. m. in Gobin Memorial Methodist Church. A professor of systematic theology at the Atlanta, Ga., institution’s Candler School of Theology for the past four years, Dr. Thompson will speak on the subject, “When the Cross Becomes Personal.’’ The educator-pastor, who served Methodist churches in Maryland prior to joining the Emory staff, was brought to Indiana by Dr. William Faimer, minister of the Coatesville Methodist Church and part-time instructor in Bible at DePauw. Dr. Thompson is speaking at the Holy Week meetings sponsored by the Coatesville church at 8 p. m. throughout this week and is scheduled to address a Youth Rally there at 7:30 p. m. Saturday. He also is holding daily morning watch services for high school students and one-hour sessions for young married couples preceding the ef/ening meetings. On Sunday Dr. Thompson will conduct the 5 a. m. Sunrise Service and the regular morning worship service at 10:30

Current Literature Group Met Monday Evening Eighteen members of the Current Literature Group of the American Association of University Women met on Monday evening at the Alpha Omicron Pi House. Mrs. Edna Hayes Taylor of the English Department of DePauw University gave a delightful review of the life and work of Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell. Mrs. Taylor described Mrs. Gaskell as a kindly, understanding woman, whose writing was filled with good-natured wisdom. She was often called a rebel because she wrote so sympathetically of the social problems of her times. Mrs. Taylor enlivened her discussion with selected quotations from some of Mrs. Gaskell’s novels, ‘Mary Barton,’’ “Ruth,” North and South’’ “Letters’’ and especially from "Cranford.” During her travels in England last summer, Mrs. Taylor visited Elizabeth Gaskell’s birthplace, Chelsea, and Knutsford in Cheshire, which is said to be the original of the tillage described in “Cranford.” Mrs. Taylor’s descriptions of these places and of the people she met there,
