No gift is more appropriate for a boy or girl, on birthdays or any other time, than a copy of the Holy Scriptures. There is something about the possession ’ of a Bible that gives a young person a new sense of moral and spiritual responsibility. It invests the great characters of the Book with a warmth and nearness that is conducive to spiritual growth. There has been no time in human history when young people needed the instruction and inspiration of the Scriptures more than they need them today, when strange voices are calling and strange hands beckoning them into dangerous paths. Much of the literature and drama of our time is cynical, materialistic and sensual. Only the Bible can tie our young people to the faith and solid virtues that make life strong and safe. The Bible has meant more to the world and humanity than all other books combined. The youth of today should cherish it as a priceless heritage.
