WRIGHTS ELECTRIC SERVICE YOUR iVU-stiimliouxe DEALER APPLIANCES ANI» TE1 ••VISION SALES AND SERVICE hflt (Vzlnat Pk0M M

In today’s deal, concentrate on Mi Dale's hand fot a moment and forget about the others. He opened the bidding with one spade and heard his partnei raise him to three. Now, with first round control of two suits, second control of the other two n six card trump holding and a jump raise from partner, wouldn't you think your chances for a successful slam were overwhelming? In pre-scientific days a player with any red blood at all would jump to six spades on the South hand. And as you see the West J player would be able to cash two aces foi Ihe immediate defeat of the contract. Yes. it doesn’t mean much to be dashing and courageous if you constantly land needlessly) lake minus scores on hands like this. So often the "Colorful” bidder ends up in the red. How could you stay out of a slam on this deal? Well, the Culbertson four-five no trump convention wouldn't help. Neither Mr. Dale not Mr. Masters had the requirements for the Culbertson four no trump (two aces and a king of a tint suit I. The Gerber system wouldn't help either. A four club asking bid by Mr. Dale would have developed Ihe information that Mr. Masters had one ace But which ace? That was all-important. Those players who disdainfully avoid any ace showing convention would automatically bid six. Tire chanfes would be too good that partner hart the ace of spades. Using the Blackwood, Mr. Dale knew i not just guessed) that the enemy bad two winning aces. After he himself made the cue bid of four clubs, showing first round control of that suit, his following four no trump bid asked specifically: "Partner how many aces do you have OUTSIDE of the club suit When lie learned the answer was none it was perfectly dear that the ace of spades and the ace of diamonds weie in the hands of the opponents. Truman is Coy About Politics WASHINGTON, Jan. 25. (UP)- Curious Democrats deeid- i ed today that President Trunia: 1 is deliberately inviting speculaDon that he will run for th" I Senate again instead of seeking re-election to the White House, , But they had to admit that it's [ anybody's guess why Mr. Truman wants to give a fillip to that | particular idea at this particular |

time.

Some thought Mr. Truman tipped off his real intentions when he told his news conference yesterday ihi he probably will announce hi.s political plans before the April 29 deadline for entering the Missouri Senate race; nnd (bi he realized his statement had the effect of "leaving the door open" for him to seek his oi l Senate seat again. Others, who are convinced tha' Mr Truman will he in the presidential race ,felt that he was merely playing his favorite gam» of "keeping 'em guessing." Republican spokesmen declined to take (he halt, if that's what it was. They stuck to their official position that they don’l care what Mr. Truman does. Escaped Convict Eludes Police ANGOLA. Ind.. Dewey Outlines Foreign Policy NEW YORK, Jan. 25 iUP> • Gov. Thomas E. Dewey proJs.ses the immediate estahlianinent of a treaty of Pacfie defense which would forge strong Am.-ticaii links with free Pacific nations and forestall “another Koh-h of disastrous proportions." In a major foreign policy speech, before the National Industrial Conference Board last night.
