SOCIETY II. A. R. Chapter Hears State Regent Washburn Chapter D. A. R met Tuesday night with Miss Grace Browning. The Washburn chapter had sent boxes of clotnmg to children in several southern mountain school, among these Kate Duncan Smith and To masse schools which are entirely supported by DARs over the country. Letters of thanks were read from officers of these school. Appointment of delegates to the April Continental Congress in Washington, was left in the hands of the Executive Board. The State Regent was the speaker. She mentioned two n v DAR chapters in Indiana, poke of a DAR scholarship girl attending Tomasse school and that Indiana DARs had completed their payment on the new building in Washington. The MeGruder text book issue was discu::: ed and a new and somewhat changed text book has come out this year. She remind ed us that all reforms come from public opinion.
Federated Reading ( lull Met \t City Library The Federated Reading club met yesterday at the City Library Miss Wood reviewed M.uy Chas’s Alibie Aldiiol: Rockefeller. Aftei the review, members answered roll with a current event, and a general discussion of headline newspapei events was the result. Members were urged to write to their Congressmen their opinions on bill before Congress. Pleasant Garden Club Meets The Pleasant Gardens Home Demonstration club met Monday Jan. 14th, at the home of Mrs Norma Morlan. The meeting was called to order by singing Ute song of the month. Roll call was answered by eleven members. Guests were Mrs. Robert Awor. Mrs. Helen Bond, Mrs. Betty Bain and five children. Mrs. Robert Aker became a new member. Mrs. Eva Bond, received ti prize for wearing the most unique piece of jewelry made from kitchen utensils. Safety hints were given by Mrs. Ruth Craft. Outlook lesson was given by Mrs. Louise Johnson. An interesting lesson on. “Care of Electrical Equipment” was given by Mrs. Blanche Reel and Mrs. Irma Eggers. Important points were; Have proper wiring: Don’t overload fuses; Proper extension cords and follow directions on appliances. Delirious refreshments were served by the hostess. Next meeting will be with Mrs. Deity Killion, Feb. Hth.

Mrs. Claude Etcheson. the president openud the business meeting. Flag salute and club creed were repeated in unison. Roll call "Something 1 had Planned for 1952" was answered by nineteen members and one guest, Mrs. Davidson. By-laws of the club were read. Mrs. James Curran gave the Outlook lesson for 1952. She compared the buying power of a dollar today with previous years. Jackie Steward gave a very interesting report of her recent trip to 4-H Congress in Chicago.
