Weather Right For Pie Baking tLAFA YETTE, Ind July 6 (INS I Hoosier h o U S o w I V r s whose husbands relish the sight and, of course, the taste of good old fashioned apple pie have very little reason for not presenting hubby with his favorite dessert often these cool July days. Not only has the weather been right for baking so fur this summer, but right now good yellow transparent apples are available in lotal stores all over Hoosierlantl. And, what's more, they will be plentiful for at b ast the next two weeks. That is the word from Joe S. Vandemaik, maiketing specialist of the Purdue University Hortii ultural Department. According tu Vandemark, the apples now flooding the Indiana market are excellent not only for baking purposes (including pie), but also for sauce ami dumplings. He advises that homemakers buy yellow transparent* that are at least two inches in diameter anti that have good coloring. He also says cooks should avoid buying small, green apples or apples that are excessively bruis-

ed.

Other wise purchases for housewives this July are cabbage, greens, bunch beets and turnips. Vandemark says they all are plentiful. He says watermelons and cantaloupe are now available u< the South and West hi moderati prices, and'that tomatoes, let tuce, black and red raspberrie.and dry onions are moderately priced and are in moderate supply at the moment.
