Madison Cubs A Happy Bunch MADISON, March 20. (INS) King Ray Eddy and his Knights of the Round Bull an 1 Hardwood were welcome i at Madison-on-the-Ohio today by thousands of happy commoners. The Knights, affectionally referred to by their partisans as the Cubs have just completed their best successful conques’. Lafayette-on - the - Wabash was the last victim to succumb to the jostling of the Cubs in the 40 h annual state-of-Indiana tournament nl Indianapolis. The scribes tallied the score as 67 to 44. Reliable sources say that King Eddy will adbieale his throne, however anil next season will have at his command the (*)iartes of Kokomo. This was Eddy’s 11th season at Madison. He previously had mentored basketball at Tell City after his graduation from Purdue University where he captained the 1934 Boilermaker quintet under Coach Ward (Piggy) Lambert. In those 11 years Madison teams have pocketed five Southeastern Indiana Conference titles and have been runner-up in the state finals twice, in 1941 and 1949. Eddy returned to the Butler fieldhouse Saturday with three members of the varsity crew which fell before a hot-shooting Jasper Wildcat team a year age. 62 to 61. Those three boys, Rig Spence Schnaitter, Ted Server and Ed Cheatham, as well as th" remainder of the Cubs were a determined lot. They saw victory snatched from their bands once and were not taking any

In the afternoon game against Marion, probably the least respected team in the finals, tlv Cubs escaped with a 50 to 49 victory. That was the narrowest win margin of the tournament
for Madison.
The Cubs’ victory trail saw four teams fall in Sectional play - Deputy, 84 to 36: Seottsburg, 65 to 33; New Washington, 105 to 59; and Central, 95 to 28. The Cubs outlasted Greensburg, 53 to 42, and Fairland, 65 to 48, in the Regionnls, then in tho semifinals it was Madison 55. Indianapolis Tech 46 and Madison
