Alfalfa, Clover Crop Is Damaged LAFAYETTE. Ind Mar. 14 - i INS) Purdue University agronomists said today they have received reports of severe damage to alfalfa and somewhat less damage to led clover by “heaving" of the plants, lue to alternate tree zing and thaving this winter. The injury is being noticed principally in heavy soil areas that are poorly drained. Many alfalfa plants have been lifted a - much as four to six inches, and some farmers express the feat I that their alfalfa may be alnu*-" | a complete loss. Damage is worse than usual because of water-logged soils resulting from excessive winter rainfall. Since these alfalfa fields are the chief sources of hay or pasture on many farms, the loss in the state may be c.o*snlorable. according to the ’l^trdue men.
