Minton Okayed For High Court WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 OTP) —Senate confirmation of Federal Judge Sherman Minton as a Supreme Court Justice today added another member to the high court’s “liberal" bloc. THRILL SLAYER Cook county state's attorney John S Boyle announced today that he planned to question Knight regarding the slaying of Roberta last December. Roberta, whose home In Brookfield was in the general locality of Knight s *18,000 residence, disappeared while en route to a movie. Her body later was found on an isolated roadway. She had been raped. Boyle named two officers to arrange with Dupage county state’s attorney Lee Daniels for questioning of Knight about the Kinearson slaying. Knight is being held in the Dupage county jail at Wheaton under armed robbery charges. Knight was reported to have offered to undergo lie tests about the killing. SCHOOL NEWS Ridpath School The fifth grade children really enjoyed their science last Friday. Mr. Harris, county agent, gave an illustrated lecture on "Soil Conservation." He showed slides that had been taken on farms in Putnam i County before any improvements had been made, and also some that had been taken aftei the improvements were completed. Now, after seeing the pictures, they are planning a tour of the far ns on Friday. The Ridpath “A" softball team were victims of a late rally b) Millers' team last Friday at thi City Park Diamond. Tavenner, questioned about today's hearings, refused to comment on the witness. “I cannot deny the story,” he said, “but I cannot release any names or characterize the probable course of the testimony at this time."

The Past Presidents Parley of the American I^egion Auxiliary net Monday evening at the tome of Mrs. Mabel Vermillion. The neeting was opened and the new officers. Mrs. Betty Hamil ton president and Mrs. JonnL Thomas secretary treasurer were installed. The pillow slips the members had made were turned in to be sent to the Marion's Veterans Hospital, gift shop. Games were played during the soci-'! hour and priies were won by Mrs. Jennie Thomas and Mrs. Almeda Braekney. The next meeting will be held November 7 at the home Ol Mrs. Alta Newgent. Mrs. Miller Hostess To Canaan Home Ec. The Canaan Home Ec (Tub met Sept. 15th at the home of Mrs. Harry Miller with Mrs. Jesse Sechman. The meeting was opened by the president, Mrs. Lloyd Greenlee by all singing “Merry Life," the club song of the month. The American and Christian Flag salutes were given and was followed by all repeating the creed in unison. Twenty members answered the roll call. Bring a new kitchen gagdet. Seven children and five as follows were also present:

Mrs. Marvin Edgar reported that the Social Committee was ’planning a Hallowe'en party foi all members and, their families During the business session it was voted to take money from the club treasury to purchase the lunch for all members attending Achievement Day Oct 28 at Russellville. A nomninating Committee Mrs. Ralph Harcourt, Mrs Frank Woods and Mrs. Leffel Goss were appointed to select the nominees for the election of new officers for the coring year The penny collection was taken by Mrs. I-ester Miller. The trip for the Chorus of thi Home E- Clubs to Washington, was also discussed. During the social hour delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses. After repeating the club prayer the meeting adjourned to meet with Mrs. Ralph Harcourt Oct. 13th for an all day meeting with a pitch-in luncheon. All members are urged to be present as this is the election of new officers for the coming year.

Seventeen mem hers and two guests enjoyed a delicious baked chicken dinner with Mrs. Lucille Hutcheson offering thanks. Mrs. Ruth Craft discussed work for the Riley Hospital after which it was decided to send for some woik. It was also decided that each trosmber bring a small gift to the next meeting for a box which is to be sent to the children of Riley Hospital. A motion was made that the Club send a gift to Mrs. Poe, t4 member who has been in Arizona for some time. The club also sent $20 00 to the Research building fund for Riley Hospital. Mrs. Lucille Hutcheson named the nominating committee which is composed of Mrs. Pearl Knight, Mrs. Lee Rissler and Mrs. Mary Skelton. A report of the committee is to be made at the next meeting. The paper for the afternoon was a very Interesting one on the “Everglades of Florida.” given by Mrs. Lulu Huffman who had spent some time there.
