M.\\\ .loll TITLES IN STEEL INDISTKV PITTSBURGH. Sept. 5 HNS) More than 5.000 separate job I classifications can be found in : the steel industry. A study of .'!0 different depart- j ments in the industry, made by j the American Iron and Steel Inj stitute, revealed a total of 5.050 distinct descriptions of jobs. Since only typical organizations were described, the'actual total number of jobs which nnghl be found in the industry could bo more. The combined number of common and alternate titles recorded was l.'!..'!96. It was estimated that of a complete list of all titles used for all jobs could be compiled, the total would reach between 50.000 and 60.000. The study found that only about 10 per cent of steel workers could be classified as unskilled. the greater part being skilled or semi-skilled. In addition there are many thousands of positions in the executive, supervisory, technical and sales classifications.
