ERICH BWANDEIS You all know about iFompeil. ,1 ancient city of Italy Which -as destroyed by ashes amd uni e spewing from Mount .Ysuvius in 79 A. D. You know of its glamour and lory discovered when archeolog;ts began to explore the ruins liudst seventeen hundred years tier and found that it hud long eon the very heart of Roman sd Creek culture and civillza c.i. You may even have read the etters written by Pliny the Younger in which he told Tacitus bout the death of Pliny the Eller, soldied and author, who pershed in the city's disaster. But there is another Pompeii f which you probably have never heard. In this Pompeii, a little comnunity of 300 in the State of Michigan, there also was a dusts! er just recently, and a hero ilso perished in that disaster. Like many other places in our country poliomeyelitis struck his little town of Pofeii in Michigan and eight youngsters became its victims. A young doctor from Tulsa, Okla., hail just taken over the practice of another physician who had died after 30 years of woik in that little town. A navy veteran of the last war. 27-year-old £>• Karl E Jones, Jr,, labored day and night
