rich brandeis lent controversy is raging parts over 'the question . wheels of chance nt fairs, firemen’s carnivals similar events arc sinagainst the public good, know these wheels. of put down your dime, spin !),eel and win a pound of 1 0 r a doll or what-have-rhaps you just spin the nd don't win anything, ou g:et- a good laugh you have any sporting i you. you keep on putwn dimes and spinning »el until your wife dispulls your sleeve and

says. ‘’That’s enough, dear.' 1 to a question-thetr*.

So you go on to the next ‘‘attraction” and try again. Who is damaged? What’s wrong about it? What has religion or the public got to do with it? Being a voter I was asked my opinion about these games. 1 know ihe questioners wanted in. to condem them. 1 could tell by the way they asked the questions. Aty answer was: "You niaKo me sick. You’re nothing but a bunch of hypocrites." Naturally they left in a hurt, and I didn't have a chance tc explain. But even if they nad stayed on 1 couldn't have explained. They wouldn't have lot me. You can’t convince hypocrites that they are wrong. There is no sense argi!*.ng with intojlcrance. Hypocrites and Intolerant people are so imbued with their own righteousness that they cor. • sider you beneath tnem if you disagree. What you say doesn't count. To them there is only one side

I'll tell you why I think these wheels of chance are all right, because you may have them m your community. A wrong is something that

hurts others.

I a m against gambling if the money you spend on gambling deprives your family of something to which it is entitled, or if gambling becomes a habit that takes your thoughts off your work and eventually leads to misery and failure. I am against drinking for the

same reason.

But it is ridiculous to say that putting a few little dimes on a wheel-of-chance at a church fair is more sinfuul than a ride on the merry-go-roumr or any other innocent pastime. Frankly these preachers of sin and perdition make me sick. There is little enough joy ir. this world as it is. To kill laughter and fun and call it sin is just as sinful as sin itself. To me it is a desecration of God's name to proclaim that Gad does not want you to play these games of chance.

The God in whom J believe is a God of granaeur and glory, not ' a God of nickels and dimes! BAINBKIDGE Miss Doris Huffman of Indianapolis and Mrs. Guen Huffman of Fillmore called on Mrs. Bessie Darnall Wednesday. The Pruitt family reunion was hold at Danville park Sunday. The Eskimo Club members and their families had an ice cream social at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Higgins Sunday

evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Harian and daughter are visiting a week in

Hillsdale.

The Widows Club met with Mrs. Bessie aDmall last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cougar left Sunday morning on a trip to

Canada.

Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Wilson ami Mr. and Mrs. William Carmen of Ladoga spent Monday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller. A large crowd attended the sacred concert at Somerset church Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Elza Tate and son of Danville, 111., spent Sun- | day with Mr. and Mrs. Dan Tate.
