French Leader Takes Own life
PARIS, June 17.—(UP)—Col. Jean Delore, accused of being
leader of the so-called “Pentecost Plot’’ to set up an underground in the French army, committed suicide in La Sante prison today. Prison guards making a routine inspection this morning found Delore dead. He had hanged himself after opening the
veins of both arms.
Delore and 21 others were arrested and most of them charged with attempting to “demoralize the army” after police seized a bus, a small truck and an automobile bringing arms into Paris
June 2. A former army officer, Delore denied the charge before an army judge yesterday. He said he and a few friends had organized to combat any attempt to stage a Communist revolt. Delore said he knew of Communist activity “in setting up arms depots and forming a secret organization for a putsch.” “In the face of inaction by responsible authorities, I took the initiative with several friends who shared my views to form a group to combat any attempt at revolt by the Communists,” he said. Police refused to disclose how Delore obtained the instruments he used to end his life or any ; other details of his suicide. Four members of Gen. Charles
De Gaulle's Rally of the French People (RPF) were among tho e charged in connection with the plot. The RPF has denied any connection with the plot.

WASHINGTON, June 17.— (UPI The judicial action in the Coplon trial which threatens to bring the FBI into disrepute is counted by well informed persons today as the best break the Communist party has had here In
years.
The FBI is Communism’s toughest opponent in the United
States.
The law enforcement agency now has been put in the position if sponsoring or accepting as true various information which, in fact, it neither sponsored nor accepted as accurate. None of the information is .nore vague, however, than for instance, an anonymous letter which the FBI received many months ago and. according to regulations, kept as part of its flip. That was the letter whicli proved to he the first tip on irregularities in the official conduct of former Air Force Maj. Gen. Bennett K. Meyers. Moyers is in jail. Exposure of FBI files in the espionage trial of Judith Coplon revealed a mass of mixed pickles information, some of which was little better than malicious gossip. But the true value of much
I of the information still remains I to bo determined. And it is a I fact well known here that regardless of the chit chat and unsigned communications which are stored away by the FBI, its records make up the best and most valuable list of subversive characters and hooligans th.s government possesses with which
to defend society.
The Communists arc well aware of that. If they can capitalize on the uneasy feeling created in this country by publication of the FBI records, they will do so. The left wing, has, in fact, already begun its efforts to
discredit the FBI.
Today's papers report the call for a “Bill of Rights Conference" ferial demonstrates that the conference will be a sounding board for an all-out attack on the FBI
and its director, J. Edgar Hoover. The accompanying material also leads to the suspicion that Communist sympathizers will have control of the conference when the time comes to write th“ to be held July 16-17 in New Yoik City. Accompanying mablasty resolutions of denunciation and protest. Paul J. Kern of New York City identifies himself as acting chairman of the conference anil as one of those who conceived the idea. Associated with him are scores of persons who are neither Communists nor fellow travelers. But the fellow traveler infiltration is much more than likely to be sufficient to keep the conference headed in the direction the Communist party seeks. Among the top sponsors of th“
conference are Howard" Ta 7 *. * pro-Coinmunist author, and Rep Vito Marcantonio, boss of the American Labor party and unfailing champion of the Soviet Union against the United States on any issue on which they are in conflict. Also listed are Henry A. Wallace, whom tho Communtats lassoed last year for their own political purposes. Paul Robeson, the great Negro baritone who now sings only the party line and Dr. Harlow Shaplcy of the Harvard Observatory. The House Un-Amci .van Activities Committee lists Kern as an associate, member, sponsor or sympathizer with upward of 40 Communist fronts. Its reports repeatedly have described him as a veteran fellow traveler.
