ERICH BRANDElS - No man will be able to explain this, but 1 am sure every woman knows exactibly whot I mean . You will notice it in restaurants and hotels. You will see it in stores, in resorts or in your .;wn or a friend's home when a party is going on.
Let us say there are severai women present. They are all well-dressed, wellnannered, fair-looking. One woman will stand out among the crowd. She is not prettier than the rest. She isn't wearing costiei • clothes. Her husbaTid is no more pros porous than any of the others or if she is single, her folks ! aren’t any particular somebodies.
But somehow she attracts at tention. , Men fleck around her. The other women take an instinctive dis like to her, but admit that thi.woman has Personality. What is personality? It is one of the most indefinable characteristics in the hu man makeup. But when it is there you sensv it just as you sense Spring when it is in the air.
There is another word for personality, although you may call it one of personality's ingredients.
That word is poise. Poise, m the dictionary, is deI fined as alanceb. It is also defin- | ed as equilibrium, stability. ‘K third definition is "the bearing of thi body or head; carnage.’ All these make up poise, and Without i>oise there can be no personality, as the word is used in its best sense.
I have seen the same thing in men. Smb a man conies into a room, and suddenly that room has life, radiance, color. Whatever it is that makes up personality, it is contagious. It glows and spreads and shines in- ' to the hearts and minds of everyone within its reach.
j Can personality be acquired? I don't know’, but I doubt it. Personality, I thins, comes with birth, just like the eyes, the tvese, the cars. Can inherent personality be developed? Definitely. Background, enviranment, ex.a i pie are the bases of personality. Education, culture, security develop it.
Heal personality is neve" hony. Sha n and personality di n’t go together. Fear is aklilt of personality. Character is its best nourishment.
Excuse me. I have to go downstairs. Somebody is at the door, raia- ' :ng Cain. j Us is scratching and yelping, j \nd he is going to get what he j is after, a siucculent steak bone. It’s Sandy, our next door neighbor’s terrier. He, too, has personality. BOWLING NEWS ' l -te Sunday night mixed caguc gur.irs resulted as follows: he fr our Aces won two from ic Openers; the D. D. Packard Unveils Fifty Years of Progress
Automotive progress over the last lialf-ccntury is vividly shown in the comparison of Packard's Model A— built in 1899—and the new Golden Anniversary Packard Super. In the last fifty sears—in an industry that has seen 2,000 car names eliminated —Packard has become
America's oldest continuous maker of tine automobiles. Of the 42 American makes of automobiles exhibited in 1900 at the first U.S. auto show in New York, only Packard remains as an independent car building company. The new line of Golden Anniversary Packards contains 77 major im-
provements and scores of hidden changes, im hiding new styling, improved visibility by means of a larger rear window on four-door models, greater engine power in the I ight and Super, longer Super wheelbase. colorful new interiors, better braking and greater stability.
